Like you I'm in the midst of building both a thumbs and text TGP.
I agree with Surfn and UW that length doesn't matter and you have to make sure you have a good host for fast loading.

Thumbs TGP's will grow faster than a text TGP just because of the appeal to the surfer. It will also depend if you are running hardlinks or using a script to control your trades. Some of the scripts can crop all your pics, follow production of each pic etc,etc.
Running with a thumbs manager and trade script can actual increase the production of your trades.

For pure production purposes I like a Thumb TGP better. If you keep your skimming for trades to a decent level and keep the surfer happy you will have a winner.

Text TGP's are still the heavy hitters in the industry ( The Hun, AL4A, and the like ) and your growth can be good as well with more long term stability ( Bookmarks ). Scripts are also a good idea and almost all the big sites use them. Principles are still the same. Keep the surfer happy.
