Text if you can get the same amount of traffic that thumb tgps get.
well, for thumb tgps, the SE do read the alt tag.
text tgps are pretty hard to grow though, you don't see a lot of 100k+ text tgp, but they could start to grow when the new 2257 hits everyone.
