Very similar way here: I create my gallerie templates with an old-fashioned text-based html editor, graphics with PaintShop 7, and thumbnail tables with ThumbsPlus... But then I run two small vb scripts over the entire stuff.
One to change the stupid long names from ThumbsPlus [like tn_pic01l_jpg.jpg] into something simpler and to alter the html slightly;
the second to replace image names, dimensions, etc. on the gallery page [I try to keep individual image names for each gallery, unlike many who always use something like pic01-pic20 for each and every post - e.g. helps me to find already published images].

Useless Warrior - why don't you like ThumbsPlus' thumbs? I think they're usually excellent considering their high compression...
Only if I'm in the mood (or I'm using sponsor content) do I sit down and make my thumbs by hand.
