Adultsites and proxyservers of big companies

Within many big companies proxyservers prevent surfers to go to pornsites :-)
The companies I worked (I will not mention them here) though had pretty simple settings.
The proxy just looks at the domainname or a substring within this domainname like XXX, SEX, PORN or ADULT.
Sites like TheHun and BlinkingCOW pass by the proxy easily :-)
Sites like Worldsex and Adultfun gets blocked.

Does anyone have any experience with this ?
Experience in the sense of how many people are surfing adult sites during their daytime job ?

Now I know why TheHun is the biggest :-)

Some of the corporations that we've done servers and networks for (some pretty large US corps) use software that looks at the content, as well as things like voluntary ratings, and maintain a word list for a quick scan of heads of html. Its pretty expensive software, but it is usually part of a much larger package that allows for other monitoring tasks and remote service.

Back when I did computer consulting I would find that many adults sites were locked at the larger business including many of the adult webmaster boards.

Ok, interesting Linkster and Cleo.
I see that there are also companies which have seriously configured proxyservers.
I just worked with one of the biggest companies in The Netherlands and they only had restrictions on the earlier mentioned words and phrases. At least that is what I found out by clicking and searching the internet :-)

Cow, i think that blocking like that is a VERY good thing. I can't see too many people whipping out a credit card and then whipping something else out to do their thing in the office. Just like public libraries, filtering off porn is a benefit for our industry and we should be all for it.

I am sure someone will do it, but most porn surfers from companies are just wasting you bandwidth!

Mailling list traffic usually converts best 9-5, Monday to Friday, USA time.. That's what I've heard anyway

Might not be so black n white for website traffic... but office workers playing with themselves under the desk must be pretty common thing in lots of workplaces imho!

my traffic is higher during the week, 3 to 4pm seems to be around the busyest time

I am sure the workers find hundreds of ways around the blocking software
like converting the domain to a ip or doing a search and viewing the page in a frame

This supports my theory a bit :-)
