link list owners and sexcounter

LL owners, is sexcounter acceptable for free sites that are submitted to your LL's?

Many don't accept any third party counters. But some still do.

I spent some time on sex counter's site earlier today to try to find out their angle. They say they can run a site running a lot of millions of hits per day just on the ads in the webmaster area. I found that difficult to believe - even more so when I see threads on boards saying use sex counter because they send you a few hundred hits per day.

Does anyone know what the situation is? and also where those few hundred hits come from?

That makes you one of the smart ones. If they didn't need traffic from our sites, then why is there an animated pic of sex on their image? Why can't we zero-size it?

They're a traffic leak at best. Plus, they have bad breath.

Let's see: Traffic leak, you don't control the content of the counter, it often has the word "ENTER" on it, and it is a script that invokes other scripts that you don't control, and it sets a cookie.

Pretty much "no way".

SEXCOUNTER HAS NO IMAGE, IT HAS NO LINK & YOU CAN RUN A VERSION THAT HAS JAVASCRIPT.

Did the help clear things up for the last 3 posters who have just posted complete lies?
|shocking| |shocking| |shocking| |shocking| |shocking| |shocking| |shocking|

"They say they can run a site running a lot of millions of hits per day just on the ads in the webmaster area"

Please understand who 'they' is and this should become clearer.
From our about page.

"SexCounter is ran by AdultSolutions.com which is owned by DLX Ideas, LLC the same people who brought you some of the biggest adult projects such as DeluxePass.com, VideosZ.com and Choopa.com Hosting"

Sexcounter doesn't survive off just the revenue create from ads (which actually right now there aren't any). It survives off choopa, deluxepass, vidoesz revenue.

Please ask as many questions as you want but don't just post crap about it being a traffic leak with a big gay button say click me for hot

- Richard.

My bad. I keep confusing you fuckers with SexTracker.

I still wouldn't go around being proud of Choopa. Just my assclown opinion. |clown|

I'm just trying to clear things up from a "is sexcounter going to screw us" perspective.

If a webmaster wishes to use a third party counter I offer you an invisible counter with no button and the means to track your referers, page hits, blahblahblah with a non-javascript counter (which rules out all hokey pokey spyware/trojan crap).

"and it sets a cookie"

In response to this comment. Yes we deliver a cookie to the surfer.. big deal? How else are we going to track uniques, navigation paths, visitor loyalty?
Do you pay for everything in cash to avoid being analyzed by big brother?.. or avoid violent video games because they stimulate murderess tendencies?

So sexcounter makes no money? I'm confused!

Anyway, let me say this: I went to your top rank page, and the first two sites that were not "counter groups" had pages that use your stats... one loaded you as a 1X1 image and the other had a boat load of javascript on the page.

I don't accept any javascript.

I don't like external 1X1 images.

While I didn't look, I would assume you set a cookie or collect other information regarding my visit, and would attempt to track me across multiple websites.

Code:
<div style="position:absolute;">
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript"><!--
loc=escape(document.location);
re=escape(parent.document.referrer);re=(re=="undefined"||re=="")?"bookmark":re;
req="id="+146+"&loc="+loc+"&re="+re;
document.write('<img width=4 height=4 src="http://cs.sexcounter.com/cs/?'+req+'">');
//--></script>
<noscript><img src="http://cs.sexcounter.com/cs/?id=146" width="4" height="4"></noscript>
</div>
<!-- End Sexcounter -->
Since I don't accept javascript, it is a safe assumption I won't list the sites with this counter arrangement.

Images from third parties, even in 1X1 size are not permitted either.

If I misrepresented your image in my previous post, I apologize, but honestly, all the counter companies use such similar names that it is pretty much impossible to tell one from the other without major checking... therefore in my book, all third part counters go in the same bin: reject.

How are you able to set a cookie if all you are loading is a 1 pixel gif?

You can set it through an image too. Many sponsors do that.

Cleo, any access to a site allows a cookie to be set, even if it is just to access an image.

Correct. Sexcounter itself is not currently a revenue stream. Why is this so hard to believe?
In the sexcounter members area you can customize your code to include exactly what is necessary to track the stats you require. For visitor information such as browser, screen resolution etc. Javascript is required.. but if you don't need these stats, you don't need javascript in the counter.

I can understand that you block pages with javascript. Javascript can pave the way to lots of nasty stuff. However, what harm can a simple 1x1 gif do?

Whenever a request is made using http the response packet contains a set of headers before the response body. These headers describe attributes/meta-data regarding the response. One such header is Set-Cookie.
It doesn't matter if the body of the content is html, gif, jpg, xml, msword, random bits.

Richard, any part of a site coming from a third party is NOT in the owners control. If a hack comes out tomorrow based on images (like that recent jpg hack) then 1x1 images are just as risky as full page ones. Someone breaks into your systems and puts malicous code and suddenly tens of thousands of websites are spewing stuff without the owner's control.

Also, I am sure you are aware that most of the top sites on your lists have no privacy statement or disclosure of third party tracking.

It's all in how you look at it, I guess. Most important, it's my link lists, so my rules

I'm all for webmasters using all the tools available to help anaylyze and understand their traffic, but when it comes to basic free sites, I just can't take the time to view everyone's source and figure out why I'm getting alerted about a cookie or what purpose the java has. I have to use blanket policies for expedience and practicality. I believe you when you say SexCounter is clean, but because so many other third party counters have gone to the dark side, we have to lump them all together in order to ensure that sites are clean. It's not an anti-SexCounter rule by any means.

I do thank you for clearing up how your counter is different from that of other companies.
