The Effects of Dialers Down Under

Now I know many of you incorporate dialers into your promotions in an effort to convert foreign traffic and I'm always reading hype from dialer sponsors saying that surfers from certain countries actually prefer to charge to thier phone bill.

As a private support tech for PC users in Australia I'm fighting a constant battle with dialers jumping on surfers systems.

I've read similar stories about Germany and other countries and thier fight to stop this practice.

From where I sit dialers are doing a lot of damage to the future online porn market in foreign countries, if you clicked a free porn link and ended up with a $500 phone bill would you ever trust another porn site in your life ?.

Remeber bad news travels faster than good news.

I know a lot will dissagree with me on this but I'm trying to gauge the real world effect they are having on surfers trust .

Same theories as rebills to be honest, at least in my opinion, people need to learn to read, thats why TOS was invented, when people buy homes they read, or buy a car they read, fuck people even read the Sunday paper and that only costs pennies, READ the TOS is my feeling and view, but hey what the hell do I know. |afro|

I think your experiences might be a little different to say those of someone living outside the USA . By that i mean when was the last time you actually were presented with a dialer while surfing?.

For those of us outside of USA the normally simple act of reviewing free sites can be a real pain in the ass when they redirect to a dialer automaticly.

Don't get me wrong here John I think Dialers do have thier place and are quite effective but I think if not used carefully they may prove to be a double edged sword. As a webmaster if you have a link list or tgp and have Foreign bookmarkers that have been buying memberships happily then one day they join via a dialer and get a $300+ Extra phone Bill from a dialer do you think they would trust your site again ?.

I know from first hand experience that many do join using a dialer and claim innocence once the phone bill comes in,But I've also seen some people that I believe were mislead or were the victims of dialer's that load in the background without your interaction.
