Basically you point this web browser at a web site with links to pics and it shows just the pics.

Does what it says. I went to a gallery page of mine and it basically loaded all my large images and banners in one window without any text at all. I could then either click on each one or click on one and then hit the forward button to go through them or I could hit slide show and just sit back and watch the images go by full screen.

Notes,
Banners are still clickable and clicking on them causes Safari to load the paysite and come to the front.

Your alt text on your images is rendered across the bottom of each image.

All text and its links is completely removed. The only chance of making a sale would be off of a banner and your banner's alt text would be seen on the banner itself.

This is Mac only right now but nothing to stop it for being made for other platforms.

I'm sorry to say this is nothing new. There are several programs which also just grab images from the internet. Just put a search in on google and you'll find literally dozens.

I think I read about the first one about 2 or 3 years ago. Some guy who lived in a trailer. He got tired of surfing through all the crappy porn sites and designed a browser which, like you say, simply showed the images minus the promotional material.

Of course, there is a simple solution to all this . . .

I've known about their existence for years. Last one I heard about was called "Personal Porn Explorer". I'm not sure if that's around now or not. I often wonder why it never gets mentioned here or other sites. You see a lot of talk about how great it is to fuck with your surfers so they get SO pissed off they eventually upsell.

Well, yep, they do upsell...but they upsell to tools like this. They pay up to 40 bucks for a ripper or browser then need never have to pay anything again.

Here's my somewhat insignificant opinion on this browser or the other means to bypass our collective selling techniques. I believe these programs are used by surfers who have been around the block a few times. Surfers who have seen that been there all before. In short surfers who most likely wouldn't have any intentions of joining a pay site any way.
It's my belief that those are the types of people who would search out this type of program and exploit it's capabilities. I also believe that they would tell all of their friends about it. But that probably doesn't constitute a huge share of our customer base. Add in the fact that even though the debate about how much we should give away for free on TGPs and freesites people are STILL buying memberships to paysites to the tune of many millions of dollars a quarter, so they want more than what we give them and they will eventually pay for the right to view the protected members content.
So I wouldn't recommend getting to upset about it right yet. What would be something to get upset about is IF someone in the industry decided that this could be a short term cash cow for them and started promoting it heavily. Let's hope that if that happened, insightful TGP owners and LL owners would choose to ban any pages with that being promoted.

Here's the problem though : if something's exploitable, it will be. Think of the demand for free porn, the most searched-for thing on the internet. Now how much demand would there be for a device which makes GETTING free porn easier?

Brings me back to the real issue at hand. Pics and movies are dead. There, I said it. They're like the icing on the cake nowadays. So, we have to be clever. The medium has changed. What do we sell that can't be downloaded for free?

IMO a lot needs to change. Sponsors are using out-moded business models. We suffer for it. The only way to consistently make money (unless you have FUCKLOADS of traffic) is find out what can't be downloaded...and sell that.

I have friends that use’s such things, but they still join porn sites, and just mainly because they like what they see and simply want more of it, and then they go straight to the source. Sure, that way the only one that gets paid is the pay site owner, that’s right, but there is nothing that forbids us to starts our own pay sites and promote them.

Remember that P2P have been around for years, site grabbers etc have also existed for years, side by side with all the paths and passwords forums too. So, is it not funny that, that even though those tools have existed longer than many webmasters here has existed, we still make money? Shouldn’t we slowly have disappeared one by one over the years?

I think that in the bottom line, porn surfers are lazy people; they want their porn hazel free without needing to download, install and go through a configuration process before they can get it. Most of them, and that’s quite a bunch, will be comfortable with just clicking on some links with their little cursor.

well yeah, of course you left off the newsgroups which i used to surf back in '95 which was substantially earlier than P2P anything. I'd bet GreenGuy might have even visit one or two of those WAY BACK THEN.... they still exist.
but i do agree with your closing point, I don't see a huge decrease in sales due to this browser or any that might be developed for other platforms.......

Water is free, but I buy bottled water all the time. It tastes better and doesn't have crap in it.

I can download MP3s for free, but I buy most of my music from the iTunes store because saving 99¢ just isn't worth my time and I want safe quality.

I can get TV for free, but I have a satellite dish, the free stuff, while I do watch it sometimes, just isn't enough, again I want quality.

This is just me… there are people that will only take free and then there is people like me.

If you give people a reason to pay for it many will. Surfers will by memberships as long as they feel they are getting something to fill a craving.

Cleo, you're lucky. In the UK I have to pay equivalent $300 pa for terrestrial tv, plus $1000 for satellite, $1500 for water, and the list goes on. Plus we have something called council tax. For anyone who lives in the UK, would you like to guess what that is for a 10 bedroom home?

I do see what you're saying though. If you want quality, you have to pay for it. Sure.

Trouble is, there is a demand for free porn. Quite a large one. This means that software developers will be encouraged to make their programs more user-friendly. This will make getting high-quality, free porn, very easy. In this scenario, it would be - why pay for quality? Quality is free.

So, my point is that sponsor sites will soon need to change from the cookie cutter bullshit. It just wont fly very shortly. It's going to be painful, might even require imagination and intelligence, bu sponsors might just have to create worthwhile sites.
