WHO IS FONZY!?! Don't they teach you anything at school?
|
Hot Live Girls, Overstock, Kaaza, etc.
I'm sure some of you are familiar with those parasite thingies - those pop-ups which find their way onto your hd and reek havoc.
With me they've become more than a minor irritation - they're slowing me down bigtime. Norton is ineffective - these things are not viruses. I've tried Adaware and similar programs - they don't work at all. If somebody knows how these parasties work, I would appreciate if you would tell clue me in. For instance, how are they downloaded? Are they cookies? Where do they "reside' on your computer? Can you find them and delete them? Thanks

Other than going the Apple route, you could save a lot of hassle by using a browser like http://www.mozilla.org/
But Macs are almost bullet proof.

Mozilla is a great browser and yes it supports CSS. You are now seeing your pages the way everyone that doesn't use IE sees them. I've coded my pages so that they look pretty much the same in all browsers, but each browser does display a bit different.
Windows people seem to prefer its Firefox flavor. They also have a Mac OS X only favor called Camino that is written in Cocoa. I have all the flavors installed but like Mozilla the best for some odd reason. Actually my favorite browser has become Safari but for doing geek stuff Mozilla is far better and the CCBill admin only works in Mozilla or one of its flavors so I use it for that. I keep an old version of IE around for doing reviews. I don't know how anyone can surf using a browser without popup blocker and tabs still. |

Hey chuckiepoo, mozilla intreprets css but not as much as ie, so things such as
width:100; background-color:#000000; Your background color won't span the box that you specify, only behind the text. There is workarounds to all of it, but hopefully Mozilla will be 100% compliant soon ![]()

"compliant" wrong word
![]() 100% supportive, but then again, ie isn't 100% supportive either, if you don't want to mess around with workarounds, take Cleo's advice and code while checking in seperate browsers until you know what works and what doesnt.

I damn near fainted when I took a look at some of my sites with Mozilla.
One of the things it did was to put quotation marks where they weren't specified. And unauthorized underlines, too! What I'll have to do is use less css. Is Mozilla supposed to be the #1 browser now?

IE has tags that Microsoft thinks are a good idea but aren't standard tags so other browsers will not have them.
What I do is only use tags that are supported by all browsers. Besides looking good in all browsers chances are that these tags will not cause problems with future browsers so your pages are not going to break. Here is a CSS Browser compatibility chart http://www.corecss.com/properties/full-chart.php |

If you want to keep spyware off your machine, surf with higher security, keep activex turned off, and never download anything that a page asks you to download.
And don't use "free" programs like kazaa. This blocks most things. It's a bit of a pain in the ass to set your browser to higher security, but it's less of a pain than getting scumware on your work machine. Spybot is still the best free blocker and remover... |
