Life after the linklist?

What happens after the free site go to the bottom of the link list? I mean, there's a period after submission when your free site is somewhere in the top of the category or the "new sites" section, you get traffic and everything looks good. The days are passing and your site gets more and more in the past, what then? I was told that I can expect up to 150 hits to sponsor monthly from each free site after it gets old... is that possible after SE crawling, etc. Should I expect that my free site is going to get me more traffic? Or the free site's life is short as much as a month and something?

Well, some LLs will rotate listings so sites don't really go to the "bottom" and stay there. In any case, you want to hub out your free sites so there's some traffic coming in from your hubs and not just from LLs. SE traffic will come with time if you set up your free sites with text/tags that the spideys like. I've got free sites that are months old and still get 1k+ visits per month

.. in addition to what MMax said...

Some LL's drop your listing after 6 mths or so.. (if the site is unchanged)
Some list it forever in an archive or cat.

Becareful with "quoted" numbers.. they are often ONE person's experience, and will depend greatly on the niche, the site, and the links to the site.

As MM said... Se traffic will come over time..

Could somebody list some hub examples? I would love to check some of these sites to get a better idea what you put there except the site links...

Links always receive the most traffic when they're new. But to make it fair for everyone, I rotate all links A-Z. One day A is listed on top, B the next day and so on. Links are listed as long as they aren't 404 or gone in other ways.

building a useful free site for a LL is just the first step thats the primer and if its built right after all the traffic dies off and gets dropped by some LL you will get some se traffic IF the site was built right, If not than I consider that kind of site a throw away - meaning that it will get very little SE traffic.. If fact it takes a few months most of the time to see some sales off a free site when it starts to draw SE traffic.. So it better to build quality instead of throw aways..

is it safe to add metatags to your site after it was submitted or is it against the rules? I know your'e not suppose to change your site after it is submitted , so does this include metatags? I didn't put any in some of my sites.

This is the biggest difference between LLs and TGPs. Many of the better TGP scripts can be set to detect any changes to a page's code and delete/blacklist if there are any changes. A listing on a LL gives more longevity, and as long as you're still following the rules after making a change to the site almost no LLs will have a problem. That said, it's generally better to build more sites in a different way than to spend a lot of time revising old sites. In any case, just don't "start" breaking any rules with your changes and you're fine.

According to my stats, the Search function at Blue Wave is hit more than the first page of the most popular three categories put together. That means a lot of our visitors search instead of browse. As long as you have good descriptions for the sites you submit, you should continue to get traffic even after you've dropped way down in the list.
