Win2k Help

I think there really should be a software forum

Ok, my pc running win2k sp4 is fucked

I get this error when I try and log into my profile at startup:

"Windows Cannot Load Your Profile Because It My Be Corrupted"

It then creates a temp profile for me to use and logs in as that...

I would like to know if anyone has ever had any success "uncorrupting" a profile, or if there's any way to copy all the data to a new profile... I know I can copy some data, but all my emails, settings etc don't seem to be a part of it...

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

Matt

Maybe this will help:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=811151

If not go through the list:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&i...ted%22&spell=1

Good luck, man.

That message usually has something to do with the registry being corrupted... maybe you don't have enough free disk space for it to load or something wrote bad data into it.

Rorschach,

Perhaps it's because I just woke...

That just wasn't helpful.

Sorta thing I expect on other boards- not here.

If you'd like neutral statistic regarding OS's:

http://www.google.com/press/zeitgeist.html

If one has been 'playing' with computers since '93 or earlier I find it hard to believe anyone can become a tool for an OS. ANY OS.

In a market driven society, superiority does not equal success.

When NT started to come onto the scene man did those NetWare certified guys scoff and laugh.

Hmm...oddly, clients started to switch to NT a good bit. Was it better? Not really.

MS understands they need to market to the people who make the ultimate decisions.

Win2k and WinXP Pro are good OS's. Personally, I really liked OS/2 and could have abandoned Windows had there been you know...like APPLICATIONS for it.

From a development standpoint an OS is a tool. Nothing more...nothing less. As one starts to get those 500 page books and gets into a technology platform (any) one feels comfortable in that platform. This isn't a surprise.

What is a surprise (not really) is that people claim all sorts of probs with Win2k and XP. I'd like to take a visit to those peoples houses/business to check out their system.

Like *any* OS you have to educate yourself.

If one is on XP Pro and hasn't been here and gone through all of these they are accepting the defaults. The defaults on Win systems is to throw the kicthen sink in because of the broad user base. They want your grandma (just as an example) to be able to use it.

http://www.tweakxp.com/ and http://www.microsoft.com/technet/

Are good places to start on Win systems.

If Linux is your development platform of choice and you are into it-cool.

The reality is that some people do KNOW Windows and know how to make NT, 2K and XP Servers fly.

Oh, and Win platform has some realy cool apps with the bulk of support.

In the end, one uses what tool works best for them. When someone gets on a high horse and touts their OS and 'better' they sorta forget the learning curve and 1000's spent on apps and training.

When I state 'apps' I'm referring to Macromedia and Adobe products and all the add-ins to make the best use of those apps.

This isn't an argument. Just some perspective as I see it. If I had *time* the geek in me would love to checkout latest Linux offerings dual booting OS's. I no longer have that time and my platform for better or worse is pretty much set.

If Linux ever had the market share Windows did you can be sure you'd see posts all over with complaints that just blow you away.

Use what works for you. If RedHat and Apple wish to buy me all the apps I need to switch and a $1000 gift certificate at Amazon, maybe I'd invest some time and considertion into another OS.

Until then, I use what works 100% of the time for me, what software developers test their software on, and what I am fully comfortable in.

Rorschach,

That's true for sure. My fiancee is half a world away and I haven't seen her in a month and a half. My hand hurts.

She also does mellow me out a bunch in general.

My adult site plus some non adult sites is what will allow me to move to be with her eventually. So, sometimes I am a bit STRESSED.

Still- all the stuff I stated is true.
