Freesites - html in different folders

I've always thought that for a freesite all the pages should be in the same folder and not jump either up or down between 2 or more folders, but see a lot of submissions coming in with that format.

Thoughts/opinions for/against having all pages in the same folder welcomed before I go an a decline spree if I have no need to and I have my opinion wrong

Personally - I try to list what I think my surfers will like...

I doubt they'll notice and, if they do, care - and I very much doubt that the SEs give a rats either...

As long as its on the same server I dont give a damn - I even used to pull recips from different domains and it was never a problem - thats the reason the general rule on LLs has always been "content" on the same host/server (some go as far as the same domain - for the pics and movies content - but kinda ignore the recips - unless youre hotlinking them from us LOL)

I have seen this too and I have been declining on the no doorway page rule as it seems like its a doorway of sorts to me. So they make a index and main page and put them in different folders and link all those to the same galleries. Doesnt really seem like a complete site to me. I dunno was just my intial thoughts on that and the other replies have me thinking now.

Why? I for example use two different folders for thumbs and main pics because it is tidier, easier to use, and saves me having to use the "rename" option on the software I use to create the thumbnails. So how is:
(a href=pictures/one.jpg)(img src=thumbs/one.jpg)(/a)
a doorway page?

Similarly I used to keep series photos in one folder so I could create a line of ordered sites (eg. site one=pics 1 to 20, site two=pics 21 to 40 etc.). so my links would be:
(a href=../pictures/one.jpg)(img src=../thumbs/one.jpg)(/a)
again, how is that a doorway page?

I think msanchez meant that he declined sites because of the gallery pages (HTML) being in a completely different folder, not the JPG's.

Yeah I meant the actual folders thanks Fonz

This thread is really driving me crazy now lol. As im doing reviews Im looking from the surfer perspective. Well heres a site with just a horizontal scroll bar where my rule sez no horizontal scroll.

Well its just the bar there no actual scroll lol but it is the rule... well in my new surfer friendly out look, it doesnt really seem to take away from the surfer experience so Im gonna say ok to the site, but now im on the slippery slope of flexible rules lol.

Thanks Jel

I think it's too limiting to, for example, require index.html, main.html, gallery1.html and gallery2.html to be all in one folder.

So is this layout NOT ok with anyone before I build?

folder/index.html
folder/main.html
folder/gallery1/index.html (gallery1 pics here, thumbs in sub)
folder/gallery2/index.html (gallery2 pics here, thumbs in sub)

I always put thumbs in their own folder i.e. mysite/dirtysluts/gallery1.html (thumbs in thumbs)

The reason I asked is because the very best freesite SE listing I've had for like 2 years now uses seperate folders for each gallery as in my example. So I planned (of course) to keep building them that way, lol.

Maybe what I'll do is whip up a sample site and post it for review and ask who would list, or not list it.. and build up recip table from there.

Yes I can see that working. I have been told that some engines prefer index files to files with other names. Also, of course, some engines will only list index pages, so your example gets your site 3 listings instead of one.

I thought I would give a bit of my own opinion on gallery sites structure...it is true however, that there are a few ways of creating this as some will be specific with their own methods...which is fine. I've done some gallery sites in the past until I realized that my link directory is keeping me busy full time and I have not had the time to continue. Anyways, with that being said, here is how I did mine and it worked well for me and never had problems being accepted (even in my own directory ...hehe) Anyways, I thought it would be best for an image heirarchy of how I did it.

gallerysites.jpg

Of course, as I mentioned, this is just my method and others will have their own. The folder called "Graphics" is where your site graphics are kept for all mirrors; "banners" is where your site banners and recips are stored (all in one location); "gallery-pics" is where you keep your 20 pictures with thumbs as well; "Keyword_mirrors" is basically the name you give for each mirrored copy of the site you just made; then of course each one has its own html pages for the site to give the function of individual sites.

Then you will see in the jpg here that "Site-2" is your second site for perhaps a different sponsor and then you just repeat what you did for your first site.

The idea I came up with for this is that pictures, graphics, and other images takes up a lot of disk space and just makes management of your images more complicated if you make a change and have to do it for "every" single mirror...so why not just do it once only and have each mirror site access the banners, pictures, and site graphics. I find that doing it this way doesn't affect the actual urls in the site layout (except behind the scenes to load the page graphics etc...but no one sees that. This method also allowed me to be a bit flexible with the design with each mirror as well (eg: use different banners on each one - for the same sponsor site).

Ok so Just so Im clear that if a site goes keyword/index.html to domain/main.html for eaxmaple that is a doorway page and no good, but if it goes keyword/index.html to keyword/main.html then the gallery pages are wherever on the same domain thats ok?

Just trying to make my life easier by tryiong to understand thanks

You'll please more ppl by keeping it as follows

Yea, I'm not too particular about folder structure when reviewing myself. But, there are those that are...this is another one of those..."don't give reviewers a reason to decline" situations. It's not a big deal to mirror all your html into a different folder.

If you're concerned about dup page issues, I used to target specific keyterms on each mirror. A few quick search/replace functions...a little tidying up here and there...and you end up with completely different sites for each mirror
