Those of you that listen to the show on a regular basis know that Jim & I are backing the XBiz Summer Forum as we feel it will be a very good show for the webmasters that frequent this board. I have already booked my flight & room and we are strongly encouraging people to attend (even though Jim won't be there because he has dogs

Do us dead sexy people have to pay the same registration fee as all of the ugly webmasters or are they going to cut us a deal? Also, does my bodyguard need to be registered too or should I just bring the dogs and a good knife instead? Both very valid questions.

Also, ask him about that wrongful death clause on the registration page. Exactly how many of us do they intend on killing and why won't they accept responsibility? Can we choose to be anesthetized at the time or must we suffer?

Emma, having done both, I can tell you that Vegas in the summer is hot like heck but it is tolerable - it is super dry, time spent by the pool is great, and with zero humidity, you can dress nicely for an evening out without worrying about sweating through the cloth before you made it to the destination.

Miami might only be 100, but with near 100% humidity, it drags you down very quickly and makes staying outdoors pretty useless - even mysting systems don't really help.

Thanks Greenguy... It would be nice to go to my first show, but now is really not a good time.

There's also the maths of it all - is it worth spending $3000 or so going to Vegas on the off chance of winning $10grand of advertising? Or would I be better off just spending the $3grand on advertising?

Even though i wasn't in the chat room until the end..and i can safely say that UW, Chop and MML are soooo dead--it was good to hear they are serious about their drinking and the 149 will be worth it just for the amout of bloody marys i can consume!!

From the looks of it his new XBiz show sounds very promising. Surprised to see that there is no actual convention floor with booths though.

Maybe since this is just the first one?

BV, I can tell you from very personal experience that less and less companies are interested in a show floor, and more and more are interested in unique marketting situations that allow them to truly reach out and touch people.

Shared experiences, seminars that teach, social time... that is what makes shows really go. Most people don't talk about the AVN show floors, they talk about the parties, the after hours, the nutty adventures... the XBIZ show (like the Cybernetexpo show and the Pheonix Forum) seems to be tuned into exactly that mentality.

About 5 years ago a group of webmasters did this sort of thing unofficially, and it was a good time.

I agree somewhat, most of the better networking I've done has been on the side during a party or back in the room. But there is still room for business that can be conducted on the show floor and I still like to stroll through it all.

Not to mention all the extra revenue it could generate for XBiz. I'm hoping they do well.

BTW: I think the Hard Rock is an excellent venue and Vegas is a good location for everyone buying plane tickets.

I'd like to see an Orlando venue, that would be just as good as far as flights are concerned. All the mommy webmasters could take the family to see Mickey Mouse too!

BV, I will let you in on another secret of trade shows: Unless the show floor is large and well sold, it isn't a very profitable part of the show.

Most hotels, when you get floor space for a trade show, will turn around and require a minimum number of hotel rooms be rented / agreed to. Even a small show floor of 25 or 30 booths could still require 150-200 rooms PER NIGHT for the entire run of the show, including setup time. You need time to setup, time to take down, union rules and rates... and unless you sell that show floor out and really make it worth visiting, people are not going to get too excited about it.

Most companies in the adult business these days are loath to run a booth at anything other than the biggest shows, and even then, many of them are still not interested.

If you look at all the current show crop, outside of the AVN shows there are no showrooms anymore. Financial obligation versus return pretty much seals the deal.
