Anyone know how to uninstall Strongbox?
My host server crashed and they put my site on a different server...now no one can login through Strongbox.
What can I do to remove SB without making a mess? Or do I just call ccbill and ask em to reinstall their stuff? Oh I email Ray this morning but he hasn't got back...and you can't post on his website forum cause it doesn't work. |

If you have a copy of your pre-Strongboxxx .htaccess file, all you need to do is rename the one you're using now to something else and put your old .htaccess file back for now. That will put you back on your old login method.
(Note: I'm just a user, so please check with Ray for what to do to fix the real problem.)

You should seriously consider editing this post and taking those details private. Posting the full server path to your password file isn't a wise idea.
(Trev was too lazy to post so I did) |

6SXGpe...... you should especially be worried about. If it's too late to edit, try contacting an admin to change things.
You're inviting trouble by leaving it up there I'm afraid |

Both write to the same password file and unless they aren't working I don't see why you would need to contact them. Bigger issue is using just htaccess to protect your member's are it will not be long before the password trader sites start giving out passwords.

Since today is a Holiday, I would try to get in touch with the Strongbox people tomorrow. You posted your pw folder on a public forum. It wasn't up for long and the views were few, but I tend to err on the side of caution and would have ccbill change it, but it's up to you.

On most servers .htaccess and other files that start with a period are hidden files.

Ok understood , so if I upload/overwright my htaccess into the members area it should allow the popup login box now? Instead of redirecting to the sblogin? Or no? Thanks for the reply ![]() |

If you do it that way you won't have your Strongboxxx htaccess file anymore. I'm not sure if you'll need it, and maybe you have a backup of it (doesn't sound like it), but doing it that way will delete the one that's there now. A better way is to rename the one that's on the server now first and then upload the one you have on your computer.
If you can't see the .htaccess file, you may need to change some setting(s) on your ftp program to "show invisibles" or something like that. Otherwise you can ask your server techs to swap the files for you. Just upload the file as htaccess_to_use and then they can do the swap for, changing the current htaccess file to htaccess_SB. Those names are just examples, but I hope you get what I mean. And hopefully Ray will get back to you soon.

![]() ![]() I couldn't see the .htaccess on that space but funny I looked in on one of my other sites on the same host and I can see the .htaccess using the same ftp. So I'm not exactly sure what is going on with that. Since I couldbn't see it throught the ftp I went through the cpanel file manager and worked on it there. I didn't delete or over write anything just named the "_old" back to the main file and the main to sb. Hopefully when Ray has time I'm sure he'll look at it. I just don't want any bastards canceling or whatever because they can't login for a day or two. Oh and for whomever is reading this this has nothing to do with Strongbox or Ray lol his stuff works great I just needed to get this working. |

I'm going through my email now and I guess I'm soon to find one from
you and reply to that as well, but mostly in case someone finds this post later I figured I'd reply here as well. Simon told you exactly right. When we install Strongbox we rename your old .htaccess file to .htaccess_bak. To disable Strongbox temporarily you can just rename .htaccess to .htaccess_sb and .htaccess_bak to .htaccess. If your FTP isn't showing "hidden" files, which start with a dot, you can normally correct that using the ettings in your FTP client. In WS-FTP I believe the setting is called "remote file mask" and you want to set it to "-al". To re-enable Strongbox just reverse the renaming procedure. If your host broke Strongbox during the move that's almost always because they failed to preserve the file permissions (chmod) and ownership (chown). If they simply copied the files over without using any method to preserve these important attributes they probably broke a lot of your scripts, including your processor's script, so there's a good chance that new people are unable to sing up to your site and that old expiring subscriptions aren't being removed properly. If possible have your host copy the site over again properly, probably using "tar" to preserve permissions and ownership. Here's a page with step by step instructions on how to move a site without breaking PHP and CGI scripts: http://bettercgi.com/strongbox/manual/move_server.html VictoriaXXX, you said you had some kind of trouble with my forum. What was the problem, exactly, please? It does seem to be generally working OK since other people have been posting. |

I've also emailed you regarding what needs to be done to get your site working on the new server like it was on the old. Let me know if I can be of any further assistance. |
