Open sponsor in new window or not?
target="_new" or not? what is the best thing? Give opinions.
Upside, the surfer donīt have to leave your site and can browse other paysites that might interest him/her. Downside, window isnīt opening in fullscreen and might be seen as a "popup" and closed faster. also, if itīs opened in fullscreen the surfer might be more attracted to the site. What is more important? Letting the surfers browse the paysites quicker or give them a fullscreen view of the paysite tour? opening the paysite in fullscreen might take the surfers mind of the freestuff they were looking for before. I don't have to be careful. I got a gun

I've always used target="_blank" for sponsor links. If the surfer doesn't like the first paysite he clicks on, then it's easy for him to look for another one on your page.

I don't think all that many people surf with the browser maximized to really make a difference. Everyone will have their own opinion on this but assuming you mean a link list, I think the people submitting sites get more exposure since it is easier for the surfer to close out the window and continue looking for what they want.
I believe alessandro is right. The correct syntax is target="_blank" . target="_new" will open in another window that is already open if multiple windows are open. At least it used to. I haven't checked lately. |

Last time I checked: target="_new" opens in the "_new" window. If no window has been opened with the target "_new" a "_new" window is created. If a window has been opened in "_new", then any further windows opened target="_new" will open in the "_new" window...
![]() Now, getting to the question, it was always my thinking that a sponsor opened in the same window can cause a problem if the sponsor likes to hijack the back button. If a surfer says, "no thanks" they can't sign up with any alternative programs you're promoting, because once they click the red X they've now lost contact with your site... possibly forever. ![]() On the other side, when a sponsor opens in the same window there's a bit more pressure to commit and move forward, whereas a new window makes it real easy to just be click happy. ![]() Another issue: when using other people's systems, I've found that it's far too common for a surfer's pop-up blocker to confuse a target="_blank" for a malicious pop-up to make target="_blank" a safe practice, IMO. Personally, I prefer to keep my links in the same window. ![]()

<a href="http://www.domain.com/" target="_new">...</a>
In the above example, CSE detects the invalid target "_new" and recommends the valid target "_blank". Again, other validators and syntax checkers miss this one too. http://www.htmlvalidator.com/htmlval...eisbetter.html ![]() |

Iīve been thinking of it and opening a paysite in the same window must be better than popping up a new window given that you donīt use linkcodes with exit consoles that hijacks the browser. 1. You donīt know if the surfer has an extreme popup blocker. 2. Surfers generally donīt like popups. 3. More advertising "space" if you use same window . 4. Still easy to go back. 5. Extreme clicking surfers wonīt just open and close windows like mad. Thereīs really nothing strange about using the same window. Last edited by pornhitzman; 2006-10-14 at 05:58 AM.. |

It depends on if you are sending to a sponsor or a freesite or gallery. I have always been the thought that if you have done your homework and trust the sponsor you are using, once they click the sponsor link, that is all the surfer should see. You need to give the sponsor every chance they can to convert your traffic. With freesites and galleries, I say open in a new window.

Just noticed your title...
Leave the sponsor link alone. Give them a chance to do what they do and once you send a surfer to them, say goodbye. |

Depends on where you are sending the surfer from - if it is your own site like a hub or link list - do whatever you want
If it is a submitted gallery or free site you will most likely not be accepted as that is one of the standard rules to never open a new window from your gallery or free site (submitted ones of course) - also I have seen loads of people go back and change their free sites and galleries to add this new window - and I know for a fact that when they made that change they were placed on blacklists - just something to think about |
