Finally bought a new pc

I finally broke down and bought one. Not quite the $15k monster I wanted from voodoo but, nice anyway.

It arrives tomorrow so I guess I have my weekend cut out for me.

No snow here I do have to get ready for both the new pc and the snow. I have a car in my driveway that won't run and still no snowblower on my property. Today is just a nice Autumn day. It's a sunny 50 degrees as I type this.

The PC will be delivered here by noon tomorrow. And, to top it off, my receiver just arrived after being "repaired" for the past month. That will take me a couple of hours to hook up properly. I have a pretty nice TV and I did have everything going through that before the receiver. I guess I am not supposed to do that. The system consists of 7 speakers and a sub-woofer, 2 dvds (One to record and one hooked up to my network), a Dish Network DVR, Time Warner DVR and the "Repaired" Receiver.

I have everything backed up from this laptop but, the new pc has the media edition windows. So, I'm not sure how well the backup will work.

I need to buy one. The laptop I am on right now I won from an ARS thing couple years back but the system I regularly use is 5 yr old Dell. Need to buy before end of year to write it off. Probably buy another Dell for I have only purchased from them and have never really had a problem.

I will never buy a Mac...don't worry about that. I am curious though, what would a Mac with these same specs cost?

Back in the Ultracash days, we bought the most expensive Dells we could. We wanted them to be bullet proof and we paid a lot for them. It wasn't 2 months before the HD died. I called Dell and the guy showed up with another HD. The problem was, he had to take the old one with him. The old drive contained probably close to 10,000 names, addresses, phone numbers and SSNs. I ended up having to pay $800 for the HD. That was the last Dell I have bought or ever will.

To tell you the truth, I didn't care who made it. I just wanted the Core 2 Duo, a couple of gigs of ram and a big HD. I just happened to find this one at a really good price for some reason.

Now that it is on it's way (I have a tracking number), I am getting my 2 laptops fixed and have no idea what I am going to do with them. I guess I should keep 1 of them.

Jim,
How old was your other system? I just updated from crt monitors to lcd. Dayum, it's like coming out of the dark ages.
Review of the monitor I just bought. Amazon has a really good price on these for anyone monitor shopping.

I have been using a P4 Laptop that is really nice. It has a 17 inch monitor and 2 Gigs of RAM but, I think manufacturer's were wrong to put a P4 into any laptop. They just get too hot.

I built a PC couple months ago with radeon x1800xt (paid 300 bucks), Athelon AMD 64 2.2Ghz (90 bucks), 2 gigs corsair RAM and ASUS ATX mobo. I didn't replace the HD or DVD player, so the whole thing cost me about 900 bucks total.

The prob with my old HP Pavilion was it was hell to upgrade. I couldn't fit my new 600W PSU in there, and the mobo was glued to the case.
