different google spiders visiting?

i''ve noticed that i get two different googlebots visiting, according to my server stats:

"googlebot"

and

"Googlebot (Google)"

i see the first one the most but they both seem to pull the same number of pages each visit.

anybody know the difference?

thanks,
michael

Without seeing the rest of the referral info I cant tell which you are seeing, but there are three "basic" types of googlebots - two of them have recently been interchangable - the "fresh" bot which looks for updates to pages and the "deep" bot which is the main indexer of the "entire web" the third is their image bot which looks for images with alt text or descriptive image names to place in their image search
