New To The Forum, Couple Of Questions.

I'm brand new to the forum as well as adult affiliate marketing.

I do have plenty of experience in traditional affiliate marketing, but I've got a few questions.

I've googled and searched the forum, so I apologize if this is already posted somewhere.

First of all, I'm in the US. I want to just set up a blog with affiliate links and pics.

Since it's not my content, do I need to worry much about 2257 compliance?

Also, I see a lot of similar blogs doing what I want to do. I'm wondering if I need a disclaimer or a static page to keep minors out?

From experience in other fields, I realize I probably can't jump on the bandwagon and promote teens or any other hugely saturated niche. I've settled on bondage/bdsm because there seems to be a demand for it but not as much competition, and I think I've got some creative promotional ideas. There aren't any laws that I'm aware of in the US against promoting this stuff, but I could be wrong.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and if I can answer any affiliate marketing related questions I'd be more than happy to.

Thanks,

-Scott

Re 2257 - just include a note in your footer stating the models are 2257 compliant, if you then are linking to galleries they should have the link to the where that info is stored.

As for keeping out build your blog though have a waring page as the index with the disclaimer then link to your blog home page.

BDSM is a great niche though one of the niches that is always facing new rulings and laws, billers are less likely to work with these sites. However for some reason Fem Dom (in the UK) is viewed as 'ok' where as Male Dom is way more risky. By all accounts ladies are less likely to go beat a bloke up after viewing such content.

A couple of good niches I have been tapping into are Japanese NOT asian & Indian - these are both well searched and people seem to stay loyal to the sites they join.

BTW if you are new my advice to you is get an Epassporte account and card

I have a question for you - you say you are from a mainstream background do you mind if I ask what you sold? I also sell product from my sites and would like to find more though its hard to find a decent trusted programme as most of the people I know sell memberships.

2257 - since you say you want to use pics on your site, if they are non-nude or masked, then you'll be safe, But if you did want to use nude pics, you'll have to wait until the current 2257 mess is sorted out before you know what you're supposed to do or not do as far as record keeping.

Warning page - it never hurts to use a warning page (we've been taught that it's "a good faith effort" to keep minors out) Plus it's another place to throw up a couple ads

the side of caution

When I was being trained, my Mentor was the foemer head of the Ontario Film Review Board. He made it legal to finally 'do business' in our province. He taught me to always "erre on the side of caution". In other words, it won't hurt your bottom line to make it obvious that you are in the ADULT INDUSTRY. When Geogre W took over, many of us were worried how that would impact on us. History shows we have done qood job 'self policing'. After all, better US bastards than those bastards!

There ya go Scott! Make it obvious that you're in the porn business & that will solve your warning page & 2257 problems

I wonder why, if you've done non-adult affiliate marketing, why you would want to come to adult.

In order for someone to have "made it legal" to do business in our province, wouldn't that mean that it was illegal at some time? I remember the bad old days when movies like "Tin Drum" and "Pretty Baby" were banned, but I don't remember the Ontario Film Review Board having anything to do with the internet or our biz.
As far as Dubya, sure some people worried, people have always worried in this biz, some folks have worried themselves right out of it.
