Monthly Bandwidth

Hey all, I know that there are many different hosting packages and for every one of those there are price ranges and overages, but I was wondering on any given month what the average usage (not pricing)was for your sites..I know times have changed but I used to use 50-60 - GB per month, have those totals risen, lowered?

that depends completely on what kinds of sites you want to run on it and how much traffic it has.

paysite member areas with gigs of content? 50-60gb will get used up easily in a day.

running a network of blogs? 50-60 gb would probably get you by to start at least.

Hey BB thanks for the reply, what I was thinking of was more the lines of a link list or free site hub. I leave premium paysites to the big boys. I was just curious as to how bandwidth affected each one of you all. I know some run LL's and others promote Free sites and AVS, others here do have full blown paysites, etc. Just was curious as highs and lows of monthly usage goes.

a link list or free site hub isn't going to run up a whole lot in itself. but when you start building free sites or galleries with a lot of movie content thats when your bandwidth will go up.

100GB to start should be enough I'd think. Keep an eye on it because it will go up when you get traffic to your sites. Its better to spend a little more and get more than you need than to go way over your limit.

Yeah, I figure even when the galleries get grooving with movies, etc. That 500GB should be plenty to work with. And if you go over 500 GB lets hope that you're bringing in some bank for all that effort.

If you submit movie freesites regullary you should have at least 300gb/month bandwith. If you re going to submit movie galleries to big tgps ( like ws, hun ) your monthly bandwith usage will be much, much higher

I have around four hundred freesites out there, (pics and movies), and regular galleries listed at The Hun, (again both pics and movies), and this month I've used just over 1100GB.
Most months I'm under my 900GB limit, but movie galleries listed at The Hun really push up the numbers.

i typically go over 1000GB on the server i use for galleries, freesites, blogs.

and yea if you are burning that much bandwidth and not making it back and then some, you are doing something wrong.

I'm currently at 2.44TB for the month of Oct. Most of the traffic is from TGP galleries.

Wow Wulf, Im assuming thats MPG's as well? I mean 2400 GB is a helluva lot of pics...or better yet a helluva lot of traffic. Thats amazing.

Hello,

The one thing that I would always recommend is that just get into the habit of checking your bandwidth graphs, preferably on a daily basis and no less than on a weekly basis.

Other things that you can do as you grow to get more value out of your bandwidth is to choose a host that measures and bills your bandwidth on the average vs the peak or 95th percentile. You might also ask your host that if you see your bandwidth rise, on what you consider will be a permanent basis, if you can increase your bandwidth allocation at any time during your billing cycle and have it be retroactive to the beginning of the billing cycle.
