House voted on SAFE Act

Here we go again. Passing a bill that nobody read, or debated. I can see more than a few problems coming up with this legislation.

That broad definition would cover individuals, coffee shops, libraries, hotels, and even some government agencies that provide Wi-Fi. It also sweeps in social-networking sites, domain name registrars, Internet service providers, and e-mail service providers such as Hotmail and Gmail, and it may require that the complete contents of the user's account be retained for subsequent police inspection.

...and also...

.....certain obscene visual depictions including a "drawing, cartoon, sculpture, or painting." (Yes, that covers the subset of anime called hentai).

I love the RTBA idea!

Excuse me while I run some tree carcass through my printer so I can spread the word amongst my hippie brethren.

I actually saw that bill a few weeks ago and was surprised that it looked like it would pass with a landslide. Ehhh...another brick in the wall.

The cracks are starting to show.

Rep. Nick Lampson of Texas, who drafted the bill that the House of Representatives approved this week, said through a spokesman on Thursday that he didn't actually mean to target Americans who happen to have Wi-Fi access points at home.

You say that the "intent" was not to force Americans with open Wi-Fi connections in their homes, but a court will typically not consider congressional intent--it'll look at what the law says.
