At last - Honesty on a TV Chat Show
On most post watershed chat shows in Britain we have a more relaxed view about what language is used, and as a result, a couple of weeks ago I saw something on TV I really I wish I had recorded.
You know how chat shows often go - someone with a new book/perfume/record/movie/show/etc comes on ostensibly for an interview, but really just to plug the book/perfume/record/movie/show/whatever. Usually the host chats about their life then mentions their product near the end. Ricky Gervais was on the Jonathan Ross show to push his film "Ghost Town", and the interview had gone through the pleasantries with Ross showing no inclination to talk about Ghost town. Eventually Ricky Gervais turned to him and said (on air): "What, did you think I came here for a chat? Plug my fucking movie!" |
