Posting a freesite
I'm new.
First question - who would list a site like this: www.freshassholes.com/freesites/altea/? It falls outside of a few of the core rules, but I think it is inline with the spirit of the rules. Second question - If I only submitted one of these freesites per month (on average) would anyone be willing to give it a prominent position on their link list? Third question - With search engines in mind, if I updated the site every month or two, would you be more likely to list it or give it a good spot? Thanks. |

1) I believe most people here would not list it at all because there are too many rules that are not being met. For one I do not see any reciprocal links to any linklists. (unless thats what the links at the bottom are for).
If you were to add recip links I would probably list it, can't speak for anyone else here though. 2) What can you offer me in return for special treatment? You are already getting my traffic... 3) Free Sites should not ever be updated - that is the whole idea behind them. You are supposed to build, submit & forget them. My suggestion would be to start building a hub that lists all of your free sites - and update that with a lot of text description each time you add a new site to it. |

Thanks for the input Sven800.
About point number 2: What can I offer in return for special treatment? Good question. Let me take a stab at it and you can tell me how far out to lunch I am. I figure linklists post free sites for 2 reasons. 1 to keep their surfers/users entertained, and 2 to trade links which helps with search engine traffic. My hope is that you would think my site would do an above average job at both those things and hence earn me special treatment from you. Ok, now you can tell me if I'm out to lunch. About point number 3: From looking at many link lists and freesites out there I know that you are correct, freesites are meant to be built and forgotten about. I guess I'm wondering if anyone out there would think doing things just a bit differently could have it's advantages. Thanks for the reminder about lots of text around the links to my sites on my hub. I forgot about that. Last edited by Dono99; 2009-02-17 at 02:56 AM.. |

Oh, and yes, that is my recip table at the bottom of the page. I was thinking short (3-4 word) text custom text links.

The rules are not there to be ignored, and I seriously doubt many link lists will list a site that deliberately ignores them. I don't think the benefits that you've listed to get special treatment will carry any weight at all.
Also, some of us have been sticking to the rules quite nicely for a few years, and I find it a bit insulting that you think you can get special treatment when you've decided that they shouldn't apply to you - even some of the most basic ones. Your example isn't really a freesite, but it does look like it's a shortcut to getting more traffic than regular freesite builders. You obviously have the skills to be able to design a decent freesite, so why not do it? |

Hi KG Gary. Good points. I understand that following the rules is what makes a freesite a freesite, otherwise it would be something else. And I understand your point that I haven't followed all the rules, therefore my site may not be classified as a freesite and hence won't be listed.
I do have a comment about that though. I thinking that some of the freesite listing rules came about from the "worse case scenario" freesites. Eg, someone made a freesite and put a so much text and crap on the front page that the recip table was lost for all the clutter at the very bottom of the page, so in response a linklist rule came along and said, "all recip links must be before the enter button". I'm trying to say that linklist rules seem to steer one towards creating a freesite that is fair for all parties. My question then becomes: is my freesite fair and does it have features that make up for the rules that are broken? To use the example from the above paragraph, my recip table is under my "enter" buttons, but is my page clear and clean enough (and even draws the users attention to the recip table) to be considered NOT in violation of the spirit of this rule? However, I understand your point KG Gary. Sorry. I didn't intend to insult you by posting my freesite and/or suggesting that my site might get special treatment. |

Me fail English? That's unpossible!

I don't see the well known linklists bending their structure rules for anyone on GGaJ. Especially someone who has never submitted a freesite. Just make a few minor changes and you'll be accepted. I don't see what the big deal is you feel you need to do it this way...

Thanks for the input HowlingWulf.
I think what I'm hearing is that if I want to be posted I need to submit by the rules. Point taken. Thanks to all who replied to my post. |

You can do experimental type sites nicely - just don't plan on having a lot of the major LLs accept them. Instead, build your own hubs and trade traffic between them. Build the standard freesites and sub those out, using one link on that table for your hub. Remember, too, that you have three outbound links per page. Nothing says you can't use one of those for your hub, right? I know several of the LL owners that do this, and are quite successful. You did great on thinking outside the box. Just carry it deeper into a new way of sharing your traffic with yourself.

I think the site looks rather clean. Why not adhere to the rules and submit it and see what happens. I for one wouldnt mind listing it, with some minor adjustments. The index page could clearly be a landing/warning page with a clear cut ENTER link with your reciprocal table. If that were the "main" page I think many would be OK with it...as has been stated above, rules are rules and they are in place for reasons.
What I would suggest is to not update it. Just create new ones. Free Sites are intended to be small off-shoots to attract as much traffic as possible.

I would say you have a little bit of a road ahead of you...go look at the sites in the categories you want to submit to on LOR, Penisbot, tommy's, hoes.com, etc and read some rules and then you'll figure out what you need to do to get the FS structure/concept down...it's really simple once you get started and come up with some templates...best of luck to you

Thanks again to everyone who gave feedback on my site. I made changes and I think it's 100% rules compliant. I've just submitted it to linklists from people's sig's I could find on this board. If I missed you and you want me to submit future sites to you too, let me know.
