Video editing software

Does anybody know of any good free or cheap editing software that will allow me to cut clips into smaller sections?
I have some videos, but I want to make 20-30 second clips for my free site, and then offer the full video on my pay or AVS site.

Windows has windows movie maker built into it. It works for most videos. You can also use quick media converter for converting videos to other formats. Ultra video splitter is about 20$ but it only seems to work well with avi files. Thats why i use quick media converter to make the files avi. I use all three of those programs for my splitting. Also if you really want to get into video splitting and editing corel video studio is one of my fav all around video editors.

I didn't realize Windows had an editor. I will have to see if it is on here. I do have the Media Center Edition, so it probably is.

Thanks.

Asftools doesn't alter the original video file the way Windows Movie Maker does, it allows you to cut videos up and it's free. Old software but it still works.

I use Sony Vegas for my video editing but that's a bit over the top for what you want.

If you just want to cut out scenes, virtualdub will work well, but you'll probably need to also install ffdshow and its vdub plugin to deal with all the new formats.
