Using Mod_Rewrite for clean urls

How much do you think it helps in terms of SEO to use clean urls? I've set up my WP blogs to do this, but I'm just wondering if is that big of a deal anymore?

I know I have had spiders crawl my dynamic sites before, they never seem to have any problems. They even manage to find there way around my TGP with URLs from hell.
