Why do cheaters try and redirect traffic?

What is the incentive? I don't understand why cheaters would be bothered with redirecting traffic from a submitted gallery or free site.

I guess I could understand if they are redirecting to a page with spyware, tool bars, etc.

I can kind of understand redirecting for feeder traffic..

But all in all it seems kind of stupid - I would think that you would make more cash and have higher conversions by making a good gallery or free site and giving the surfer what they expect. Am I missing something or are most cheaters just idiots?
