Does Your Blog Have Proper Written Posts?

By that I mean, do you spend the time to write up posts in your blog with real commentary? Do you feature news items and discuss them or spend the time finding new stuff to feature and discuss.

Is your blog more than just a selection of promo pieces?

Just want to know who else is doing it the old fashioned way.

I've now write a total of three blogs. There's my Ms Naughty blog and the newest one is www.quirkysex.com/blog/

The other one is within the members area of For The Girls, I write that every day to keep the members happy and let them know the site is run by a real person.

I can't do any more because the three I've got take up a lot of time as it is. I don't want them to be just splogs, I want them to have a personality, and to say something.

So who else is doing the hard yards?

I ain't doin no hard yards right now. I got nuthin but a personal "this is why I like this artist's work" space. It's sorely neglected, and it feels like nothing but a promo blog. It was an experiment more than anything else, and from that I learned what I needed to learn.

Now I'm scheming up a "true" blog, which, I hope, will fly with the true bloggers, and feature articles and insights into all things erotophoria.

XXX Blog Maniac is mostly a combination of the two types of blogs. You'll find some commentary on things that piss me off once in awhile, you'll find video's that just plain old amuse me usually with comments on why I'm amused and you find promo video's.

It's got a feed from an adult news source and my other blogs feeds in the sidebar.

All in all, its a slice of me...confused and AFU.

I'm planning on relaunching The Walrus Blog sometime in the near future as soon as I streamline what I have a bit to make enough time to really work it. It's focus will be mostly on my own personal rants and raves. What ever has me excited for the day...or pissed off.

The rest of my blogs are your typical adult splogs...although A Naughty Blog does have some pretty good erotic stories (not writen by me).

I wanted my blog to be me, so I don't use lots of links or anything in my posts, and a lot of my links go to my own stuff anyway. It's supposed to be more of a personal blog.

Like tho, mine is kinda neglegted right now. Poor thing is always last on the to do list lol.

I did it more to be a source of traffic to my other sites than to make sales off the actual blog posts, although I do have paysite links in the sidebars.

I started my first blog with the intent to make it a 50/50 porn promo blog/Lemmy's soap box kind of thing. After I discovered that the latter part actually takes a lot of time to maintain on a daily basis, the percentage has been skewed significantly towards porn promo.

I also have two other blogs that I consider reasonably "real" meaning the posts are more than a pic and a one-liner. Now that I've bought Kaktusan's script I guess I'm going to give mass splogging a try.

By the way, I didn't want that post to sound elitist or anything. Just wanted to know what others are doing. Also quietly sussing out the link exchange possibilities. (I'm keen on linking to quality blogs that are a bit individual and I wanted to know if anyone here has a blog that fits my criteria.)

I can understand the neglect thing. The Quirky Sex blog needs more time, it's a bit sploggy but not too much, hopefully.

I hand write everything on all my blogs. As far as real quality writing goes, I have two that I do that sort of thing on and the rest are more promos. The one is a British porn themed blog and started out with me commenting on every game of the world cup with a bit of porn mixed in. That got me good traffic and then they stayed for the porn afterwards.

I haven't tried the splogs approach yet, but I might if I can figure some way to make them interesting enough. Otherwise those seem like a waste of time for the small rewards I hear most people are getting. To leverage results on those, I'll most likely try Kaktusan's program that Lemmy mentioned.

I do have one blog where originally I was going to use that 50/50 mix of porn promo and commentary/rants. It turned out to be less about porn than intended, but that's working since the blog is only part of a site, not the whole draw. (A standalone blog is one of the next things on the 'things to test soon' list.) So for now it's news, humor and some commentary with a a bit of porn flavorings mixed in. It's one of five sections on that site and is holding its own by adding some sticky to the site.

And as Grandma brought up, I'd be interested in link exchanges with those who spend time making their blogs worth visiting.

I have 3 blogs that i update but the one that gets updated the most is my personal kvetch blog. The other 2 (1 is pure porn the other is a 50/50 mix) gets updated about 1 a week but they are all personally hand written and with the 100% porn blog, I highlight each cam girl with her own outstanding qualities and why a surfer would want to see "this babe in her red cum fuck me heels and matching nail polish" cuz you just never know what fetish might be reading your blog. Of course sometimes this isn't easy especially since most of the new ones I don't know and the ones I do know quite well are retiring.

Second, My main blog (PornoMagnet.com) is like a 50/50 promo/personal blog. My other 3 are pure porn promo blogs. With the exception of an announcement every 2 months or so.

My style could be summed up as 'promo-blog with a personality'. I hand-write all my posts with commentary on the model, the act, and anything else that comes to mind. I keep promotional undertones but its clear that theres a real person writing it. In some blogs, I'll sign my name from time to time - adds a human element. I also try to work keywords into the text, as smoothly as I can - I believe it really helps with seo.

Updating a blog isn’t hard at all, but the payoff seems to be long term. If I hadn’t gotten a few sales since starting my blog I might have added sponsor rss feeds and left it alone. It’s hard to skirt the edge between paysite feeder and real content. I would like to add more personal sex stuff and get into the sex blog community.

When people tell me the blog is to commercial I tell them I like making sales off my blog. It’s good to find adult webmasters with similar things going on. I hate when people advise others to start a thousand blogs and spam like crazy. I guess it works for them, but not for me.

I’d be interested to know if people have considered the problem of reconciling good sales technique with out being pushy or a hard sale.

I haven’t optimized anything on my blog yet because I’m not sure what to do. I think I’ll keep posting what ever I want and add a little webcam portal spot “presented by streamate”. That way I can keep my posts noncommercial. Or real posts as was said earlier. Anyway I think the real benefit of doing a real blog is the search engine benefit.

I think the question to answer is "whats the purpose of my blog"? For me, XXX Blog Maniac serves a couple purposes, neither of which is directly sales.

First, it's intent is to be a bookmarker / SE magnet. Judging by my stats it's succeeding, at least with bookmarks. SE wise it does ok.

Second, because of the nature of most adult blogging, it's difficult to get good organic links to your splogs. It serves that purpose.

I guess as a sort of "side" benefit, it also acts to filter traffic to the blogs I am trying to make sales from. Although I really never thought of it for that purpose.

Lastly, it give me a place where I can just sound off, blow off steam and at least pretend that there are people actually reading what I'm saying and either nodding in agreement or shaking their head thinking what an idiot, either way, my voice has been heard.

Our posts always have an extensive amount of writing in them, but they are 99% promo posts. Our readers seem to like us so the "real blog" aspect of our project seems to be working somewhat.

I don't think the hard sale is very effective in adult blogs. I think the whole point of a splog, in whatever form it takes, is that it's pure soft sell. Just talking about how you like the porn being promoted in your post, or maybe even that you don't like it!, is a good sell. The idea is to create emotional/cognitive investment in the material you're trying to promote. By talking about it in an engaging way, you do that.

I run a dozen health-related mainstream blogs adding only one new post a day, occasionally two. Yet each blog is unique and the posts are "solid". I don't see why the model couldn't work for porn and it could also scale up quite easily.

The blogs themselves are organized to be variations on a common theme, but one may primarily focus on vitamins, another on healthy eating, another on fitness, etc. Each day I identify which of them has been longest without a new post and write specifically for that blog.

Once the post is done, I decide which two others the content is also relevant to. Very rarely posts will only work for none or only one other site and often they will work well for even three or four. That is the maximum amount of repetition I allow myself, but it is a system which maximises the value of my work, while keeping the integrity of the individual blogs.

webpimp has basically described what I do. The blog that I actually write lengthy posts for is pretty much strictly a promotional tool, but it is for the niche on which I personally get off, so it's very easy to write paragraphs about a single photograph and I think the fact that I am a real person talking about a niche that I LOVE comes through. Every once in awhile I also make a post that doesn't have any promo links -- if I find a hot photo on Flickr or some bit of news footage that my niche lovers would enjoy. Those always get a ton of clicks and I think help personalize the blog as not just being about trying to make a buck (even though that is in fact its purpose).

It's a lot of work though and I only have the energy to do it on one blog, so my other blogs are turning into splogs LOL

For off-topic ranting and such though, I have a Livejournal that isn't trying to sell anything and I've maintained that for over 5 years and post to it multiple times per day most of the time.
