CBS Isnt That Stupid
I've got to admit that when I first heard the stuff about CBS and Rather admitting that they screwed up I was kinda thinking yep - they went the road of the NY Times and others to just "get a story"
After thinking about it though - I think that there is something that hasnt hit most people yet - and the Republicans have been set up beautifully for a big fall. I had to think that any big news organization is not "that stupid" - especially to post the name of it's secret informant after they have been to court in numerous cases to protect sources - why this time did they roll so fast? After a few little searches and a few inquiries, (and memories of how Watergate broke while I was living in Wash DC), I predict that CBS has just marked the end of GW Bush. OK - so we all accept that the documents were faked documents - and CBS has named a former prosecuter and a former Govenor to investigate the source of those documents - and they will find the real source - cause thats what both CBS and Bill Burkett wanted them to do - there are going to be documents that are really found in the Natl Guard Records - that used the same word processing equipment (way too modern to have been around in the days of GW Bush's service in the Guard) because Bill Burkett knows they are there - he even knows who put them there Read this from 2000 and 2003 and you will see where I am going with this: http://www.onlinejournal.com/bush/11...r-conover.html http://www.onlinejournal.com/bush/03...03burkett.html Very smart these CBS execs ![]() |

I know that this is kinda off topic for this thread, so sorry Linkster.
I have a problem with a statement that Mr. Burkett made in one of his letters that seems to sum up the position of those opposed to the war in Iraq, at least for me. Quote:
To say that the US policies and procedures for dealing with terrorism leading up to 911 was "successful" is, to me at least, ludicrous. If the CBS thing turns out to be a carefully laid trap, then koodos to them and Mr. Burkett and whoever else dreamed it up. If all of the allegations made by Mr Burkett on those documents are true, the way he was treated when he became ill and refused to alter documents and so forth, then someone deserves a giant foot up his ass, and I'll be first in line with my size 11's on.

I'm not sure I fully understood your point, Spaceman.
I still think our concept of homeland security is still extremely shaky. But then I'm a fully modern human who understands the concept of networked war and a decentralized distributed enemy- something that most americans couldn't even pronouce, much less understand. ---------------------- I think Linkster may be optimistic with his conjecture that the cbs thing is a trap to reveal that the other documents that show Bush as having honorably completed his duty are also forged. Occam's razor. The simpler explanation is usually right. But it would sure be something to see if true. ----------------------- Here's something that is also funny: A mock election in Bush Country that produced an unexpected result... "The teacher told of an exercise wherein he read from both the Bush and Kerry websites. He read where each of the candidates stood on the main issues of the campaign. He didn’t say who was who…just “this is what candidate one says, this is what candidate two says”. The kids made tally marks about each thing they agreed with from each candidate. Then the kids voted on the issues. Four kids voted for Bush. 26 kids voted for Kerry. You have to realize the significance of this. We live in Eden Prairie, MN. George W Bush came to our high school and lauded it as a model for all school systems everywhere…presumably due to the fact that it is in a tremendously affluent and conservative suburb, and continues to pump out high-quality graduates despite being severely under-funded. (I can tell you how they do this in another article. But mostly, it has to do with teachers spending out-of-pocket for classroom supplies, parents donating supplies, a legion of parent volunteers in lieu of staff, and parents spending about as much time and energy teaching their kids at home as they do earning money at work, endless fundraisers, and an endless stream of nickel-and-dime fees that don’t seem like much individually, but add up to a lot over time...oh yeah, and deferring essential building maintenance for the past few years.) At any rate, Eden Prairie has grown a crop of Bush/Cheney yard signs that rivals the corn crops of neighboring rural towns. This is Bush country, make no mistake about it… …as illustrated by the fact that most of the kids who voted for John Kerry were greatly upset by it. They booed the results of their vote. They were upset that they had voted for the “wrong guy”. Glancing around the classroom at the faces of the other parents, I could see that many of them were disturbed as well. What could have gone wrong? How had they failed their children? What did this mean? The teacher went on to say that he assured the kids that the election was not yet over, and that there still might be many issues where they would agree with George W. Bush, and maybe when they tried again later, they would end up voting for him. The parents looked relieved as well. The gears that had begun to grind uncomfortably in their heads smoothed out and they relaxed. We moved on to talk about other things, and everyone was happy. The end."
