CSS on Free Sites

I've read quite a bit that using CSS from blah.css helps with SEO.

Do Link Lists allow CSS to be used and other SEO methods?

I use .css on my freesites for over a year now and haven't been rejecred for that reason.

I've never heard of a rule against CSS (isn't it just a way of implementing HTML?). I have DW set to make my sites with CSS by default. I'm not sure how it will improve SEO though.

Since he is asking about css for seo, presumably he means using css to define a class of text and position it off the visible page.

While it hasn't come up a lot among LL people, I'm going to say that since it creates "invisible" text on the page at least some of the LL people will regard it as a potential risk.

Some probably won't mind, but some will, and those that will are likley to tell the others to watch out for your submissions, that you might try to sneak some banned words into your "invisible" text.

If you want to be safe, don't use it. "What the spider sees, the surfer should see", and in this case, what the reviewer sees, should be what is actually on the page.

That's not what I meant exactly, but I know this method is gaining popularity by SEO spammers and I am against it.

I've read from several sources that using CSS for formatting purposes is good idea and it helps with SERP positions. The SE crawlers don't care about formatting and will never request the blah.css file, what they index and care about is the text on the page, so using CSS instead of formatting in the index.html file makes their job easier.

The thinking is that since you define fonts and things like that in CSS you don't have to fill up you code with formatting tags.

This way, at least this is what I understand, the good stuff that spiders enjoy is much more likely to be found and indexed.

If nothing else CSS makes for much cleaning easier to read code that downloads faster since there is usually much less code making up the page.

I use an external CSS library on all of my stuff including TGP galleries and Free sites.

In that case, as long as you aren't using it to create invisible text, you should be fine.

No linklist that I've heard of has any problems with any regular use of css.

I haven't done tests to see if using linked css instead of global css really helps with serp positioning, but it might. Positioning is often a question of very small advantages when it comes to competitive terms.

All of my free sites have a chunk of CSS in the head. I've haven't heard any complaints yet.
