2 new toys

I picked up the Microsoft Elite Keyboard and Mouse yesterday. They are both bluetooth so it is sweet without wires. And, if I feel like it, I can be 30 feet away. Not that I can ever see a reason for that.

I never liked the cordless mice. I find them too heavy and that they don't track as finely as the corded ones. I never understood why you would want a wireless keyboard since you have to be in front of the computer just a foot or so away anyway.

Yep...I never saw it as being practical and when I'm doing fine detail work in photoshop it would drive me nuts doing it with a cordless mouse.

My new computer user friend who bought a Mac got it with a cordless mouse and keyboard. She decided to take the keyboard over to the kitchen sink and clean the keys. Sometime before she killed the keyboard cleaning it she did manage to delete all of her playlists out of iTunes and a few other things not realizing that they keyboard was still within range of her Mac. She isn't the brightest friend that I have.

OMG..lol..I am sorry..

Well I started using a wireless in my webcam chat days years ago..and I like the idea of being able to put the keyboard on my lap without wires annoying my legs. Never liked the precision of a wireless mouse tho either.

The mouse is really nice. And, it is a small, (lite), laptop type mouse.

There's a big difference between cordless USB and Bluetooth.

I've used the Bluetooth ones and the cordless ones that have a receiver that plugs into the USB port.

The Bluetooth ones seem better then the other kind but I still much prefer the way a mouse with a cord tracks.

I guess it depends on what you are using them for.

If you're just surfing, etc, I suppose it's alright...but I've used both bluetooth and the usb variety and I always could notice a slight lag when I was doing fine detail work in photoshop...which basically means the mouse drove me nuts.

I also work like 14 hours a day on the comp...you really start noticing the weight of a wireless mouse once you get to the 10 hour mark. I'm a case of carpel tunnel syndrome waiting to happen as is...I don't need to force the issue.

Ditto on Mr. Blue.

Also, do PCs have mouse tracking acceleration now? They didn't back when I used them but I think you could add it through third party drivers, not sure.

Cordless keyboards work good. I'm always knocking mine on the floor and breaking it or killing it by spilling something on it so I tend to buy the cheap Apple keyboards since I do like the way the keys feel on them.

Input devices are a very personal choice. I really don't get some Mac users who love Apple's one button mouse, but most of the designers seem to love them.

This is what I use for a mouse, Kensington Iridio. I seem to wear them out after about nine months so I just keep on buying new ones. I like Kensington mice mostly because of their drivers. Their drivers allow assigning keystrokes to the buttons and cording the buttons. Also you can really tweak the mouse tracking acceleration.

I truthfully have not noticed any lag of anykind. The first I have a problem, they are gone. But so far so good.

Cleo have you tried an ergonomic mouse? I have an ergonomic keyboard and I swear by it now...I won't use a standard one (only on my laptop)...but I haven't tried the ergonomic mouse yet. I was thinking of giving this a try:

Doesn't look like you would have much control with it though.

That thing looks more like a joystick then a mouse. I'm always willing to try anything but that thing looks heavy and I'm always trying to find the lightest mice I can find.

Jim unless you are doing design work in something like Photoshop or Illustrator it really isn't a problem. The cordless mice are fine for surfing and doing stuff like that.

I do have my working area setup so that my entire mousing arm is supported by my L shaped "desk area" and that seems to really keep me from getting mouse arm problems.

Hey Jim cool to hear about the new toys. Just be careful Consider the issue of wireless keyboards. Though convenient, wireless keyboards present a new vulnerability to both home and business computer users. With the right equipment, hackers can record keystrokes made on a wireless keyboard from well outside a home or business. Cases have been reported of hackers cruising affluent neighborhoods in computer equipped cars and successfully recording credit card and other critical information using this technique.
Not trying to scare you, just inform you.
