DO NOT USE NETFIRMS.COM!!!

Yesterday I registered a domain through netfirms.com because it was only $4.95

There was a hosting upsell which I declined then today I find out they billed me another $8.99 for the hosting I dind't sign up for!!!

Now the fucking morons need a scan of my VIRTUAL epasporte VISA card, how the fuck am I supposed to send them that???

In the meantime I lost $13.49 AND a domain name I really wanted which they are now holding on too.

DO NOT BUY DOMAINS FROM THESE LOWLIFE SCAMMERS!!!!

Godaddy. Lets just say I would never bend down infront of them with my pants down.

They like trying to include services you never wanted with your order. Looking for all the opt-in checkboxes they've checked for you is like playing a game of Where's Waldo. But if you don't find all the checkboxes you've just bought yourself a years worth of e-mail inbox space and a copy of Super Search Engine Optimize 9000 Deluxe Pro software.

I believe their interface is inconsistant for the reason of tricking people into not seeing these checked checkboxes.

I have about 20 domains with godaddy and haven't had a single problem with them. If anbody knows how much the domain costs and they approve a transaction for an amount over that price then they deserve it because it is their own fault.

P.S. Another thing to look for when buying cheap domain names is "does it go up after one year?" Several sellers say things like ".com names for sale only $4.99" but this is only for the initial purchase. It is not so cheap if you then have to pay $29.99 every year after that.

RE: "Thats what i am asking what horro stories?" - Do a search on this board (or most others) for godaddy. It is not fair on other board members to keep posting the same info.

I guess it is just user dependant. As I said, I haven't had a single problem from them registering wise. They have provided what they promised. The only service i don't recommend from them is their domain backorder servie. I forgot to re-register a domain a few years ago and lost it. As soon as go daddy offered their domain backorder service, I put in to backorder it. When that persons time expired, went through everything I figured it wouldn't be to hard to get back since it was pretty area specific domain name that no one else would want, and go daddy was the domain registrar for the other person. Somehow I got beat out by one of these domain whores who just have it doing that search engine, keyword thing! Not really sure how that could even happen, but that is about the biggest thing they have done to piss me off.

Not "user dependant" but "luck dependant". Stories I've heard leave me to believe that as long as nothing goes wrong, and as long as no one tries to steal the domain name you are OK, but if things do go wrong or someone steals your domain name, they are not interested in doing anything about it. Also their security is supposed to be shit, so it is easy to steal your domain names if you are registered with them

As with any registrar, if you do not put in place steps to protect yourself, then you have no one to blame but yourself. Registrar Lock will prevent anyone from being able to try and transfer your domain away from you. Also, if you don't lock it, then keep abreast of your emails, as you will be notified if someone attempts to transfer it away. I too had someone try, and simply declined the transfer and locked it down.
Unfortunately this situation is possible at any registrar if you don't follow the steps. Just lock your domains, pay your bills, and you shouldn't have anything to worry about. Also, if you are worried about password security, then just change your password on a frequent basis and you should not have any problems. Again, it all boils down to how proactive you are about your domain names.

Very Strange.
I use NetFirms and very happy their service. From my cc realy charged $4.95 for every domain. No hidden fees and I've got Tucows and NetFirms control panel.

Don't go with register.com either. They charged me $35 for a domain that I really wanted but then an error appeared... and I never heard back from them
