Mambo vs Wordpress

OK, so I'm not in code-nancy land anymore, Toto

It's the new year, so I figured it was time to snazz up the Ms Naughty blog. After reading various threads about good blogging software I've now installed a version of Wordpress and a version of Mambo just to see what they do.

And Mambo... whoa! I'm wondering if I've just installed a Ferrari when a moped will do fine. It's so super-snazz I have no idea what I'm doing. It can be used for a blog, but I've seen it recommended as a content store manager and a review site db. Does anyone have experience with it? Am I going overboard using it as a blog? Also, I'm not sure what the deal is with the Joomla/Mambo dichotomy.

Wordpress looks easier but I still need to put it into my own template which looks like a hassly process. I read UWs thread on the topic, there's some good tutorials there. I probably should just go with WP but - as has been said before - absolutely everyone uses it and I'd kind of like my new blog to look similar to the old one.

I think I'm rambling now. It's all so exciting (and snazzy). |shocking|

I should put in links: http://www.mamboserver.com and
http://demo.joomla.org/

Personally I like wordpress. I haven't used mambo so I won't compare the two, but I wouldn't worry so much about the template system in wordpress. If you have trouble with it, just post the questions here

Your right, it is like comparing a ferrari to ....don't want to use moped perhaps a nice relable Dodge.

If all you want is to blog....I'd lean heavily towards WordPress. But, if on the other hand, you want to blog today and perhaps expand that further in the future....then I'd go Mambo.

Never used WordPress but will have to admit I wish I would have started on it. Mambo, I have on my home page (Walrus's Adult Playground) and it's pretty cool. Most things are obvious (some not quite so)

In the clear light of morning I'm thinking it will be easier to just use Wordpress, but it's nice to know Mambo is out there

There is a theory that picking the right tool when it is easy to make that decision goes a long way towards removing frustration at a later date.

So, before you make the decision one way or the other, it MIGHT be worth thinking about what you intend to do at a later date, and make the decision whether a little extra work today will pay off down the line in hours of time saved in capabilities you might use.

Surf http://mamboforge.net/ and see if there are any modules you might want at a later date. Then... if you still want 'just a blog', you'll at least know you made the right decision.

Thanks for the advice

It's all just come to a screaming halt, however, because I'm getting php errors all over the domain, not just in my test folders... I'm waiting for my host to help me out.

I really need a technical person to sit behind me during all this, it's so nerve wracking and I end up just wanting to give up on things. I should find myself a freelance scripty type person...

Hey GS I don't want to throw you into a left curve or anything, but http://drupal.org/ is a much better CMS than Mambo (IMHO) I am using it to power http://www.deletedbrain.com/ and http://www.strippedgalleries.net/

Very easy to use... I will admit that I had to get someone to install it for me though as I am not a tech at all.
