I think that's a good move on Dubya's part.

It's not good news until Bush does the same thing. After all, isn't that where the real problem lies?

With the problems of past Presidents, (Herbert Hoover for instance), it must make Mommy and Daddy proud to have a son considered by many, the worst President the United States has ever had.

In the middle of this post, I decided to search google for worst president ever and I couldn't find a site that wasn't about Bush.

Bush is just a puppet, if he steps down nothing changes, just a new puppet. We have to remove the entire administration at the next Presidential election.

I wish MikeAI and a couple of the other uber-conservatives came wandering over to read this one:

http://www.vanityfair.com/commentary...o03?print=true

Before and during the Iraq war, the number of Americans supporting Bush's actions were HUGE... off the scale for the most part. Now 50% plus want him impeached if lies about going to Iraq are revealed (and many already have, IMHO).

Cheney's public support is around 15% - usually the VP is the inoffensive guy with a constantly decent rating, often being setup to take a run at being President next time. No hope of that here (thank buddy christ!).

Bush's approval ratings are low enough that it is clear that even a large number of republican hardliners are not liking him or his actions anymore.

As the article above mentions, I think this summer will be the time that the Republicans trying to get (re)elected this fall will put as much distance between themselves and the President, and impeachment is actually a reasonable possiblity within the next 2 years.

Ugly.

Alex

I wonder who the Republicans are going to put up against whoever the Democrats put up. It is usually the VP.

This really is significant. A big part of why Bush was re elected was the troops. Voting out a president during war expresses a lack of support for the troops, and nobody wants to do that.

Wrong. Everyone at Fox News and the White House seem to work for Rupert Murdoch. Rupert just helps put the puppets in place, makes them look good and cashes in on policies that requests.

Think about what happens if Bush is removed. Imagine a USA run by Dick C. I have no desire to see him step now but since the Republicans are so blatent about doing what's best for the party (haven't heard that since the cold war have you?) then I'd like to see them loose control of congress.

Jim, the reality for the republicans is that as of this moment, they really have nobody clearly in position to take over after W, except POSSIBLY for his brother from Florida, or Condi Rice, but she would be a double long shot with nuts on top. She is very good at her job, but she doesn't have that ability to truly inspire individual people - she is not a real people person.

If the democrats put a Hillary - someone reliable ticket together, they could very well clean house. She would only have to invoke the good financial times and peaceful nature of her husband's 2 terms to remind people that the US can be better, safer, and world power all in one without having to engage in forced wars.

They're grooming the next Bush for 2012 or 2016 run. The next President is going to have one of the most difficult times in history.

Between 15% and 20% of every tax dollar will be used to pay interest on the US debt. The war will still be going on with no end in site. Dubya will send troops or start something his last 6 weeks in office just as his father did. Interest rates will be very high and the USA will have record foreclosures with people loosing their homes. Chine will be threatening to cut off off our loans. The over inflated housing market will stop and the GDP will topple. We'll still have a budget deficit of 300 to 400 Billion dollars a year. Gas will be heading towards $5 a gallon.

Then of course in 2010 the Republicans will blame everything on the Democratic President and Americans will listen.

Basically I wouldn't wish the next presidency on anyone because they're basically fucked. They won't put their own through that and instead let the Dems try to fix the mess.

Actually - the scenario I would expect to see by the end of summer is:
An Iranian freighter off the coast of a major city is determined to have a nuclear device planted by terrorists (from Iran of course) - it goes off with limited damage and very little loss of life, the weather would have to be just right with prevailing winds headed northeasterly (assuming an east coast city), leading to martial law imposition, with a corresponding biological release in a smaller city that requires opening of the new US quarrantine(detention) centers that are currently being built by Halliburton here in the US.
The congressional response will include a new "patriot act" that includes repealing the 22nd amendment (which already has supporters in the congress since two identical bills(senate and house) were introduced in 2003 to do exactly this) and GW will be reelected by a 1 state difference in the electoral college to serve(although this is probably the worst descriptional word I could have used) a few more terms.

Forgot to add the most important part to the scenario - we attack Iran in response to weed out the terrorists, using "limited tactical nukes" (to establish their usefulness) and institute a draft in the US for anyone not in a detention center
