Sometimes I just hate living in this town

Yesterday, we get notice in our local newspaper that the Village of Mohawk is going to have a scheduled power outage for routine maintenance tonight from 9:00 PM until 10:30 PM.

Forget the fact that it is primetime and the only real good night for TV (Deadwood and Entourage). But, when people are still awake and it's dark outside, they are turning off the lights. Wouldn't a better idea be to do it at 1 or 2 AM? But we wouldn't want to keep our Village workers who work from 9 AM - 2 PM up that late. Or, get them up that early.

So, I am taking a couple of my power backups, hooking them up to 2 DVRs and crossing my fingers. Who knows, one may run a DVR for an hour and the other for a half hour. And, I am still trying to figure out what to do for that hour and a half

Just a thought but SEX comes to my mind.

that is pretty fucked up actually to shut down while most of the community is still awake. I'd think even during the day would be a better option.. but yes 1 or 2 am is optimal.

good luck on the dvr. i'm sure that both will be in replay status as well.

The cable system here is Comcast, and they offer "On Demand" programing now. I don't know if they have that on your cable system, Jim, or what it might be called, but here you can choose from a menu of shows that already aired, usually 24 hours after their first run, and watch them whenever you want. Together with the dvr built into their cable box, it's hard to miss a show anymore, even when the power goes out down here.

We beat the cocksuckers. I took everything I had plugged to my power backups and hooked them to my dvrs. They both actually ran for an hour and a half for recording.

And, we had on demand back when it was a twinkle in comcast's eye But, we don't have HD on demand except for movies. It would have been until Wednesday before we could see these shows in HD.

We also had all our candles lit and ready. It was funny at 9:00 when the power was shut off and all the neighbors went outside of the "dark" houses wondering what was going on.

Sounds romantic.. candle lights, darkness, the power backups working in the background and silly citizens all around who don't read their newspaper

To be fair, all they did was put a tiny notice in Saturday's paper. They really should have sent a piece of mail to everyone. I mean, we only have 450 homes in the village. Or better yet, perhaps do it at 2 or 3 in the morning. I felt sorry for older people using oxygen that had no idea it was going to happen.

When there is a scheduled power outage in my area, Hydro Quebec makes automated phone calls to every household in the affected area at least a week before the outage is to occur.

Scheduled outages are never on weekends, and always in the afternoon between 1pm and 4pm, and never last for more than an hour.
