content question and 2257

Hi, i posted this on another board a few days ago. Anyone here have additional insight for me?

I'm an old webmaster from a few years back, I'm thinking of getting back into this in some sorta way. I ran sites from 97-01 and then got out of the game.

The question i have is regarding content. I have a bunch of it still that i had from back then. Now does the new rules and regs with 2257 make the content i have unusable? I am also from Canada so does this make a difference as well? All the content i have is was licensed at the time. Would my licenses still be valid?

Let me know, Thanks

Your license was probably (99.9% likely) a lifetime license. So youre still licensed to use it. The problem you might have is that sometimes you are only licensed to use it on X number of domains and those domains must be on record with the content provider. Some content providers let you use it on unlimited domains, others dont.

I dont understand all the new 2257 stuff or who needs to keep what records. I just decided to always have a warning page before any nudity and use icra warning labels. I also decided not to use any hardcore recently, just to be on the safe side.

But the new 2257 laws are United States laws. You arent legally required to comply but most sponsors have added rules to their TOS that say you must do certain things or you can have your accounts deleted. I think having a 2257 page (of some sort), and having a warning page before the content will get you in compliance with most sponsors.

here is an FAQ about the new regulations if you are in the US, just note that it is assuming your are an FSC member and are part of the temporary injuction on inspecting some FSC members... there are no easy answers until it is all fought out in the courts and we all know for sure what the hell we all need to do
