Lost data

Hello All,
I’ve got a problem. Computer went tits up last week, the man who knows says hard drive and Mother board dead, data irretrievable plus backup discs are corrupt and useless.
I now have no idea what sites were submitted to whom or when, nor when they were accepted.
Does anybody know how I might retrieve this information?
Thanks to all

Travel back in time. And while you're there, warn me about the ugly weather in Buffalo.

You get better with age UW.

What you've already submitted in a sense doesn't matter - its either been accepted or not by now. If its been accepted its out there somewhere.
Just keep 'submitting and forgetting' and look forward not back.

Ouch...sorry to hear about the computer taking the big dirt nap

Japamor is right...what's out there is pretty much a done deal at this point. So, onward and upward as the old saying goes...

That said, if you want the links of the sites I've got listed for you...give me a shout

Thanks' MrYum, but as you say. As one door closes another slams in your face.
One thing, how can you know backups don't work until they don't work? It sort of make the whole thing a pointless waste of time really.

Well you know boys, a nuclear reactor is a lot like women. You just have to read the manual and press the right button

Try GetDataBack for NTFS or FAT.

If windows can see your disks, then in 98% of the cases, this nifty software recovers your data.

Definitely one of those things that's gotta be double checked from time to time. Thanks for the reminder...just verified the image files on my external drive.

What kind of backup were you using?

Now MrYum,
That would be nice, can I get an external drive that copies everything I save to my internal drive. Be gentle, don't forget I didn't know what html was seven months ago.
Kitty Kate, I am sure you are correct, but I haven't a clue what you're taking about; a new drive has been installed and if I start poking around I can only make matters worse.
Thanks' for give my problem your thoughts though.

Braindead, i know it looks complicated, but it isn't. If you are concerned not to ruin something, just go with your pc at the local repair shop and ask them to attach the old drive to your pc and see if it still works. If it is, then is almost a child's play to install that software and use it.

I know what means to lose data and, worst of all, not to have any backup

Hi Kitty Kate,
They told me the old drive booted but as soon as they tried so access ANY data from it, it shutdown the computer. I know what you are saying but as I am so green I'm not even grass yet I might be better off just starting again. I have the disc so maybe when I have learned a little more...

Yes, you can get an external drive that runs on a usb port. I use Norton Ghost to save an image of my working drives to that external drive twice daily.

The other option that gets a lot more complicated is mirroring drives. I have 2 mirrored arrays in my machine, but I seriously doubt that's something you want to jump into. Saving an image to an external drive is a pretty seemless backup system

Added: Forgot to mention, there's a program called Spinrite that gets rave reviews for returning failed drives to usable from, so data can be salvaged and moved to a new drive.

I haven't had a need to use it, so no idea how hard it would be for someone non-geeky to use.
