<sigh> I gotta get outside soon and start putting up patio furniture and potted plants. Guess we're going to get the tropical storm part of the hurricane tomorrow. What this really means to me is the power will go out and it's freaking hot here!

Since they started adding male names to hurricanes they're known as "himmicanes"

I love 'em, hope we get one in Bama like Frederick in '79

Edouard *is* a silly name, even for a storm.

The eye of the storm is supposed to pass almost right over us sometime tomorrow morning.

We've removed anything not nailed down from the yard. Winds are estimated at about 50 MPH so it shouldn't do any major damage. Rainfall in the 2" to 6" range. We could actually use the rain,it's been hot and pretty dry here for several weeks.

Extended power outtage is our biggest concern. We've got a big generator reserved for tomorrow morning at the local rental place. Big enough to power the whole house, including the A/C if we lose power.

Did you get hit with any of the storms that came through the area yesterday? I'm about 80 miles ne of you and the temp went from 101 to 73 in about 30 minutes. Lots of strong wind and rain with that one.

When Rita hit a few years ago we had no power for a few days and the temps were above 100 everyday. I don't wish that on anyone. Hopefully this one ends up way south of our area.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/gtwo_atl.shtml

NOAA says that people ask for graphical rather than the text reporting at a 9:1 ratio. So, they answered that request with a rather easy to use system allowing multiple storms to be tracked.

The only thing about rain after a deep drought is that the rain will often times come too fast for the ground to soak it up -- resulting in a totally different problem now that you've gotten the rain.

Hopefully it'll pass with little to no damage....

First off, let me just say that I had a baby 6 hours before Rita hit 3 years ago. Boy did that suck!!

We got some rain and wind last night but that's about it. I'm about 30 minutes from Toby so I expect the same as what he posted above. It's 100 degrees right now. Not looking forward to power outages tomorrow. We don't have a generator (Toby, you're a snob! LOL!)

If this does happen, can you go outside & take the equivalent of Upskirt Pics by pointing the camera straight up & clicking a couple of "eye" pics for us?

I do love a good Hurricane Snatch

I'll bet it did. Now that you mention it, my niece lives just south of Houston and is due any day. If that girl has to handle a hurricane and labor at the same time she will have a panic attack for sure.

Hey, Toby.. please tell Mr. Edouard to save all the rain and dump it hard on the Hill Country! We need it, plus we will send it all back to you later on when you need it most. We are ready out here, and have room for a few of y'all to come out and join us. Besides, the Marble Falls Drag Boat races are this weekend... great excuse for a party, eh?

How odd is it that the Spanish name for hurricane is huracán which is a feminine adjective but it is a male named storm.

No no no - Giving them normal names makes people not fear them - I would not nail down all my possessions if Hurricane Jake came to town.

But do you know what - if Hurriance Somodomiser was coming my way - I would respect that bastard!

**UPDATE**

The lastest projection from the NHC have the storm making landfall and passing northeast of Houston instead of just to the southwest.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/grap...tml?3day?large

For those not familiar with the significance of that relative position, consider the counter clockwise rotation of the storm in relation to the storm movement. By passing to our NE the winds and rain will travel a larger distance over land as they rotate around the eye of the storm before reaching us, signifcantly reducing the wind velocity and amount of rain.
