Bloody Cats
A friend of mine is away at the moment, and since last week I have been living in his place looking after his cats and dog. He has an en-suite bathroom in the guest bedroom and I tend to leave the door open if I get up and use it in the night. When I do the cats usually use the bathroom as an en-suite cat's playground.
The other day I got up and was sitting on the edge of the bed contemplating getting on with my day when I saw what looked like blood all over the floor of the bathroom. I immediately assumed that one of the cats had knocked over a glass bottle of something when playing in the bathroom and cut herself badly. By then the cats were all lined up in the bedroom looking at me with a "get up and feed us breakfast Fatso" look on their face, none of them looked injured, but I went over to check. They were all fine. I went into the bathroom, it was definitely blood, but not as much as it had looked like from a distance. I also noticed that the biggest puddles were in front of the lavatory bowl, and in front of the sink (i.e. where I would have stood still). Further investigation showed a trail of blood spots towards the bed, fortunately the floor was stone so would wash easy (my friend designed the decor when he had a dog that used to shit on the floor, so everything is wipe clean). But the sheets would be ruined, and knowing my friend, expensive. However when I looked at the bed there was no blood on it. Although it was quite conceivable that I had cut my foot on the way to the bathroom and bled all over the floor, there was nothing on the floor that I could have cut it on. After cleaning up my foot and examining the wound I eventually worked out what must have happened. The bed had a duvet rather than blankets, so at some point in the night I must have stuck my foot out of the bed and maybe wiggled it. My friend's cats react to anything that moves in one way, they pounce on it with claws and teeth as though it were a rat. I woke up, and still being half asleep failed to notice that I had just been viciously mauled by a close relative of the tiger. After I had been to the toilet I sat on the edge of the bed, and the cats lined up thinking "Well, he may be bleeding to death, but before he passes out he had better feed us"! |
