Neighbourhoodgirls.com

My webhosting company have been sold to another company. According to both companys there should be no downtime and my terms should stay the same or improve.

However I need to change DNS and upload all my pages again. The upload is not a problem, but its gonna be hard for me to copy the structure of all my domains and my free sites(ill try my best of course). In particular ill do my best not to have any error pages on neighbourhoodgirls.com and the freesites ive submitted in 2004.

Its a shitload of work though:-( I have many domains and hundreds of free sites and I wasnt smart enough to keep a usable structure on my old host or my harddrive(that should teach me:-P).

So ill ask any of my partners to please be patient if any of my sites should have some downtime for the next few days.

That sounds terrible. Why on earth would you have to re-upload all of your pages?

Is the old host completely down already? Normally when you switch webhosts you can use a cpanel/whm transfer between hosts or transfer a tarred backup and have it extracted on the new host. I hope you are getting some kind of credit for doing all this extra work.

The old host is not down yet. I belive they will keep it up for some days. The problem is that I cant just download the whole thing and upload it again since all my other domains are placed in subfolders on the old server. Its my own faulth for having left my structure a mess for a long time.

I have a lot of scripts running as well that I need to edit with new server info- local folder placement, etc.

I was told that it would cost $1500 and a lot of downtime to have the host do the transfer for me:-( Ohh well. Its been a excelent host as far as uptime and support goes, so im not gonna make a big deal about it:-)

Generally a reputable host will just suck your stuff over for you.
You might ask about that.

I have to agree here. This might be an opportune time to look for a new host. One that is willing to help you make the move. It just sounds like they are taking the easy way out.

Feel free to PM me and i'd be happy to put you in touch with an admin that could help you make that move at no cost. While it might take some work to get you back to %100, it wouldn't cost you a thing to make the move.

Or feel free to stop by the #greenguyandjim IRC server and get some opinions in there. You have a lot of opportunities available to you instead of being locked into all this work.

Well- thanks for your sugestions. The thing is... this way at least I avoid downtime for the pages I get to change in time and most importent to my main site(neighbourhoodgirls).

I really hate downtime.

But obviosly im not forgetting how the startup at the new host was made, so if the service is no good ill be out of there pretty fast.

I moved a website that was about 9 gigs by doing a server to server transfer using scp in telnet.

I fast search and replace of paths in the scripts and setting a few permissions and the site was moved with no down time at all since we didn't change out the DNS until everything was tested on the new server using another domain that we picked up just to do this. Now both the new and the old domain name goes to the new server.

If you need a good host use the one that I use. The link for them is in the drop down menu in my sig.
