How Many LLs Do You Submit To?

I don't make doorways or duplicates of my free sites, so I only submit to 9 LLs.

I figure I'm better off not getting banned by Google than submitting to dozens of small LLs that won't send more than a trickle of traffic anyways.

What do you think?

I submit to 50+ a day! As long as the LL has a PR I submit to it. Better to get the site out there to try and pick up some SE activity!

I think 9 is a good number to submit to.

Of course submitting to 69 ain't bad

The time it would take to make each site/page different enough for Google not to consider it mirroring doesn't seem worth the time, IMO.

All those mirrored sites might bite ya in the ass if Google catches 'em. I've had domains drop to PR0 over night.

9 is a good solid number. 12 is possible on one page if you're willing to make it look right and look good. anything else is bleh.

6 is what I normally target, 6 friends basically

I think it depends on your strategy. If you want the instant, as well as long term, traffic from LLs, then submit to as many as you can find. If you're really working on SE traffic, optimizing all of your pages etc., then that's definitely too many.

SEO is a tough game & I wouldn't say one strategy is better than the other. The amount of time it takes to build a juicy SE page & continually updating your pages & hub so they don't drop in the ranks is just as time consuming as submitting to the extra LLs.

*my 2 Canadian cents*

KCat,

What I used to do.... was take your first plan and "duplicate" it but for a different 9 LL's

eg: new optimised site, with recips and submitted to 9 other link lists

Not every site you own has to be linked on every LL, and IMO it is better if they are not. If the second group of 9 prove not to bring you sales, then your "experiment" is confirmed as a waste of time. and you can go back to just the original 9, or select a new 9.

(does that make sense?)

Yes! I totally agree. If you use the same 9 all the time, it looks like systematic linking. Not very natural or rewarded well.

Sometimes it's just so much easier to cut & paste though. hehe.

I think it really depends on what you're trying to get out of it - if you want a quick rush of traffic, then you mirror te site & submit to many different link lists.

But if you're looking to get some SE stuff going, build 1 site & submit it to 9-12 Link Lists - otherwise, you're fighting yourself for the keywords you're going after.

I guess I have to disagree with the "banning" statement - while Google does not like dupe content, the worst that should happen is they will pick one page as the original page and give it the PR (for all that it matters anymore) and the rest just dont get any credit - the reason I would say that they wouldnt go any further than that is: think about all of the non-adult hosts out there - Angelfire etc. where many people do host - and do get loads of sites listed in Google. If I wanted to make you possibly get banned all I would have to do is copy your website and put it up on my hosting account. Since it would be impossible to account for this in a mathematical algorithm, unless you are out there generating thousands of doorways and mirrors that would raise a red flag and a "human" look-see, I would say that you're pretty safe using mirrors.
This does not take into account any specific LL rules or their wishes - I just think that people tend to overlook other reasons for problems with pages and automatically assume that bans have been placed.
I've seen quite a few actual bans and in every case - someone was scamming or doing something that put you way above Googles (or your competitors) radar. WMs have been building free sites for years, and have been able to get one copy listed in DMOZ and had that with the most important recips on it - while submitting several mirrors, yet I still see them placing quite well for their search phrases after 3 or 4 years.

I guess overall I just have this tick that goes off in the back of my head every time I hear people worrying about getting banned as it so rarely really happens - a few penalties get thrown around without anything to base them on other than a guess, and the ones of us that have had sites banned or penalized usually know exactly what we did wrong - The penalty to the mirrors is something I can live with if I get the niche traffic to those mirrors, and the primary page (usually my index.html) gets good SE traffic.

So maybe my sales are down because I submit to 666 LL's?

Seriously to answer the question though... I submit to 18 link lists. Mostly like DangerDave said. I have two doorway pages with 9 recips on each. Experiment a little with the ones on page 2.

Ah, you could be right. I had a handful of my paysite domains drop to PR 0 overnight & they were all the ones I had mirrored for toplists. Generally you want to keep your index clean, so I'd have 10 or 20 identical index pages with the only difference being which consoles they popped.

After talking to some SE gurus, it seemed like the mirroring must have been the culprit as there wasn't anything else going on.

Needless to say, I make sure there's a NOINDEX tag on my toplist doorways now. lol

Key words tijuana whores

Googles first position goes to my index page.
