Link List Owners and Submitters

If you were reviewing a site and it had recip links to one or more link lists that you knew for a fact were not being updated would you still list them if the site was otherwise up to standard?

I have had loads like this recently and let them through if there has only been one/sometimes two links to dead link sites.

What would you guys do?
Let them through and just ignore the fact that the other sites will never send a single hit to that page or reject the site on them grounds regardless to the fact; 'You know something they seemingly don't?'

Anyone think it might be a good idea to put a list somewhere of link sites that have stopped updating?
Might help some people.

If I knew the recips were dead or they had no chance of getting that site listed on there (like the ones that link to AL4A) then I delete it.

The only problem I'd see with that is getting people to actually *read* the list.

I can't speak as an owner, and my vast ~snickers~ submit experience is mainly with TGP. But I can tell you that I don't go in through the front door of a site when I submit. So unless I go check their PR or something (which I sometimes do) I will not see that they aren't updating anymore. I don't always catch that TGP sites aren't sending me traffic via my stats, either, because of the sheer volume of them.

I think if it were me, I'd base my (re)action on the submitter. If they are submitting good stuff that I'd otherwise list, and they are using a recip that is dead, I'd reject, and mail them (1 time) the reason.

Or, rather than going through the pain of actually having to maintain and update the list yourself, you could just put a msg on your submit/rules page, in eye catching font, that submitters need to make sure all recips on the same page as yours are going to an active LL.

Well.. I belive it's the submiters business to keep his submit list "alive" - if he only submits without thinking and checking from time to time who was he listed by I guess he won't mind (and even notice) if you don't list him either...

Of course I don't mean situations then ie. LL owner closes his submissions for week or two to get some vacations... as I guess like everyone else I got my submit list grouped into directories and it would be madness to rebuild it everytime due to one temporarly closed link list (than I try not to place selected recip or just note to resubmit it later)

Personally, I check server stats every month to see if I get listed by all sites I submit to.

It seems like there is quite a bit of variance on what people would do.
The options seem to be..

1.) Delete without warning.
2.) Play ignorant to the fact i'm gonna be the only one sending traffic.
2.) Delete after a warning.
3.) Add yet another rule to the already growing list!

This is a real dilemma as I really don't want to be hard on submitters unless I have to,and to be honest I have enough to do without sending e-mails to people that miss simple things like that.

I appreciate how hard it is to stay on top of every link list we submit to but it seems to be never ending

I delete em, but the script sends an email letting the submitter know.

I do have a rule though I don't check very hard.

There are a handfull that do not even have a place to submit at anymore or are not even a ll anymore. I delete sites as soon as I see any know recips like that on it and will even bl if they keep sending them.

That is exackly what I ment.. as my LL isn't to big yet I try to do the same..
Personally I didn't reject any site becouse of that reason but I will try to explain at other examples.. I usually decline site and send warning/notice about problem with site but if I still get spammed with the similar errors on site I stop to send warnings and just decline site... at the end I black list it.. I know we are only humans and everybody makes mistakes so it's not a problem for me if someone fucks up submission (I know I did it too few times in past) but I hate to be ignored.. it's not charity but buisiness so I don't have pangs of conscience if my business partner (I guess it could be said that way) ignores me...

Maybe you can use some contacts on the board and sugest the webmaster replace his link with theres and submit to them. It would be a real benefit to all parties.

Tough question with no real easy answer. A lot of link sites are so hard to navigate nowadays and difficult to access if they are still updating (not listing dates sites added, etc..).

I for one go through my server stats at least once a month (more when I began) and group the link list recips by amount of traffic received. If one quit updating, likely I would catch it at that time and investigate the site.

Many times during submissions a link site will 404, I won't delete that site immediately and will leave the recip up (they've sent traffic in the past and I would do the same for your site if you were having a glitch), however if it continues for several days then I would remove the site. One example of this was pornfresh after his domain hijacking, I left the button but killed the link in case he got things taken care of. Now, I've removed it altogether.

The longer I know a link site has been up and operational comes into play when making a consideration whether to carry the link for a bit or delete it. Maybe the same should apply for submitters. After all, the amount of traffic received from the recips is pretty insignificant as claimed by most. I would take the submitters history, quality into consideration I think as I don't think they are personally trying to fuck you, they are just hard working people like yourself for the most part. The al4a recips and obvious bs recip scamming are a different subject.
