Intel and Mac
What is up with that? What was wrong with the processor that Mac was using? I guess this question is mostly for Cleo.

And, how long do you think it will take for Apple to finally allow licensing for their OS? In my opinion, the biggest mistake they ever made.

Nothing was wrong with the PowerPC chip other then the people who manufactured it were more interested in embedded processors then making ones for desktop and laptop users so it fell behind the offerings from other chip makers.
Other then Mac software having to be ported over to run on the Intel chips it doesn't change anything about a Mac being a Mac. One nice perk of Apple going to the Intel chip is that Wine and VMWare should be released to run under Mac X soon. I setup one of the new Intel iMacs for one of my neighbor's girls the other day. Really no different then the PowerPC iMac. In fact I didn't even know it was an Intel Mac until I looked at the box after setting it up for her. My 17" Powerbook is just over 2 years old so I'll probably upgrade to a 17" Intel Mac laptop once Apple releases one and Adobe releases Intel versions of their software.I figure by that time all the plugins and stuff that I use will have also been ported over. It looks like by the end of this year pretty much everything will be done. So far the transition is going much more smoothly then when Apple when from the 6800 series processors to the PowerPC processors. There are some issues depending on what software you use. http://www.macintouch.com/readerrepo...tel/index.html |

As to Amigas, yes I use them a lot. The A1200 is still the best graphics tool IMHO (although a bit slow on 3D rendering or if doing large batch conversions). If it was not for the fact that the first company to offer broadband in my area (and at the time only company to offer broadband in my area) was part owned by Microsoft, and would not let you have an account unless you used Widows, I would still only be using my Windows box to see what my sites looked like in IE/Firefox/Opera/etc, and doing all the real work on my A1200 and A1000. |
