Important question for link list owners

A good day to you all

As some of you may know, I build freesites for a few other webmasters and some programs but there was rather a big problem brought to my attention a few days ago by one of my clients regarding his freesites being declined. He was told that his sites are similar to mine and that's why they chose to decline the sites and removing some that were already listed. (there is only one link list that I am aware of and it happens to be one of the most established ones)

So here is my question for you guys/girls:

Where do we draw a line as far as rules goes? I don't use the same templates and apparently the sites can't even be similar, so what is next? I can use only one color background per month? LOL

I am not trying to be bitchy and rude but what do some link list owners want? I mean it seems like you can't make them happy regardless of what you do. I do underestand the use of same templates but "Similarity" also gets you declined? Not that you have much to work with, there are only 4 pages with limited content and limited ways to design a site.

I'd appreciate your feedback so I can continue my work the proper way to benifit all parties involved.

Hey Sy. You build great sites and you are a trusted submitter. I don't care if yours are 'similiar' and I don't care if your clients have a 'similiar' look. In the few conversations I've had with other linklist owners about your sites they have all been positive.

Sy, here's my opinion. You're only going to have that listing issue with the one linklist in question. I don't even have to ask to know who you are talking about. You could take it up with them but I believe your words will fall on deaf ears. As hard as it is to pass on good traffic, I'd drop that site from your tables and move on.

Thanks Preacher, I appreciate the complement. I have removed that link list from my own submission list as of today. I am sure it's not going to hurt their feelings and I know for sure it won't hurt mine. I just want to see the others' point of view, will this cause any problem with other link list owners? I hate to see someone paying me for building sites and then end up not getting listed for that specific reason. Again, I do appreciate your reply

I'd like to know if they use the sites I made for sponsors to be used as Hosted Freesites or they elect not to use them because they are similar to mine

Well, have they noticed that YOUR sites are awfully similar to YOUR sites too? Does that mean that they are going to no longer list your sites due to that similarity? Fuck, I wish more free sites were similiar to yours.

I guess I better stop listing all those hosted free sites that Greenie and crew make - they probably look a little similar to the free sites they submit to me so much better to protect myself from similarsitisitis - maybe Ill go hide my head in a hole too just in case

They don't have to worry about looking at my "Similar" sites any more


Linkster, I think I am going to stop promoting all reality sites from now on. 1- They are all similar 2- they all have the same models/content

This post was not made for pissing match and bashing people and that's why I have not named anyone in here and I will keep it that way. I just want to know if that can create problems with other link lists |shocking|

Was it the similarity they had issues with, or that they thought someone had copied your designs, and so they were just looking out for your interests?

I guess it doesn't much matter though. Both situations seem short sighted to me.

I have noticed in the almost 4 years doing this that most if not all webmasters who build free sites that all there site templates have the same style

style and templates in not the same thing or another word for style would be similar....

when I build it's very hard to change that style, the layout is different but the style is often the same...

I think the hardest thing is to have 30 totally differnt index templates, for all the reviewers that review your sites

virgohippy, I do get both emails and icq messages from some link list owners asking me if I made the site or not which I sincerely appreciate it because I have caught people who stole my designs and it's great to see so many people showing me that kind of respect, going that far to make sure the site is not stolen. I actually had one who contacted me regarding the same client, he just asked if I know him and I simply let him know that I did get paid for the work and thanked him for keeping an eye on things. I guess the bottom line is, their site and their rules but I just wanted to know who else feel that way so I could adjust my sumbit list accordingly


plateman, I have changed my freesites style a few times. I try different styles as I learn more but I always get stuck on certain style for a while and that's because of productivity. After all, I am here to make money

I've blocked people who have ripped off another subber's template and have to admit that really similar looking sites make me go hmmmmmmmm to check WHOIS, LinkCodes etc, but they do have to look virtually the same.

Other than that, because of the rules on number of ads, format of ads, index/menu/gallery/gallery, titles, recip placement etc as well as detailed Newbie Guides etc there's only so many designs before things start to look vaguely similar.

Sy, you're submitting your sites to 3 LL's of mine. If you submit a site it looks the same on all 3 LL's. I'm going to have to ban you.

I'd rather have similar good sites than all the crappy, bad grammer, auto submitted, multi submitted, bathroom gang, wrong recip again, can't see recip, ect, ect, ect junk that gets submitted.
