ICRA becomes FOSI... Blerk!

"Beginning Feb. 7, The Internet Content Rating Association (ICRA) will change its name to the Family Online Safety Institute (FOSI). The name change is meant to coincide with a relaunch of the organization with a new, expanded mission that will include traditional ICRA labeling functions as well as identifying and promoting Internet best practices for online safety."

There's something about using the word "family" in the title that makes me want to run away screaming.

I think I have about a million pages with the words "Labelled with ICRA" on them. Sigh.

And, maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't "FOSI" have something to do with warez?

I don't like the family name in there as a lot of organizations use such a word to foster hate. However, I like the idea that they're going to start focusing on best practices for safety. They can make all the laws in the world but until parents (I am one) start teaching kids best practices there is no protection.

That was what popped into my head first thing, too. I just feel like any official organization that puts "Family" in their title these days to have such a hardline conservative hypocrisy behind it that I throw up in my mouth a little.

Guess I should try to stay more optimistic, but...

FOSI has always been my source of warez (at least when such things interested me)- just what they want to be associated with

When I saw the post title I thought why would FOSI (warez) want to get involved with site rating? You would think the'd search on a term first before adopting it.
