To LL owners with a "stories" category

What is the format/amount of content that you like to see for story sites? I'm going to be building some with both my own original content and some licensed content, and obviously the standard 20-30 pics in 2-3 galleries doesn't apply. What do like to see in order to list a story freesite?

madmax, 20 - 30 stories, not the same ones every time, not more than a couple of banner per story page, no children, no underage, no "back when I was young" no illegal acts, no bestiality, etc.

A bit of clarification here too....how long do you like the stories to be (if you have a preference). Obviously 10 stories at 1000 words is less actual content than 3 stories at 5000 words. I know only writers usually think in terms of word count...but I wanted to get it out there anyway.

I'm also thinking about 700-800 words per page to keep the pages from being huge.

You should never use LARGE stories... if the reading time is more than about 5 minutes, the surfer likely did what he wanted and won't buy anything. It's a tough marketplace (I have been in it since 1996).

1000 words, 20 stories... stories should be complete, no half stories with a "read the rest at..."

If you have 10,000 word stories, break it down into 10 chapters, that would count for me anyway as 10 stories.

I can't help but think that 10 stories is WAAAY too many for a free site. If you can offer 2 galleries, why can't you offer 2 stories? It's like you're treating a story like it's a photo. To me, this seems like you're giving everything away to the surfer.

Of course, when they can just got to bloody Literotica and read all they want for hours, it seems almost pointless to try and sell story sites sometimes...

Most sites I list have 2-5 stories. I don't have a clue on word count, but I suppose it takes about 5-10 minutes or so to read them all.

I was just thinking the same thing. Most of the sites I list have about 3-5. Sometimes I get them with maybe 8 or so, but that is unusual.

I personally prefer 1 well written themed story with oh say 5-6 pics per "gallery" to match. 2 or 3 gallerys like this, depending on the story. You are just giving them words instead of them looking at pics to make up the stories in their head. So why give it away? GTS lends itself very well to this format since that content is almost impossible to find.

i mean why confuse the surfer with 2 or 3 or 30 stories.. 1 nice story about ass rimming, 10-12 pics to give a visual and good sponsor = $$

Just so you know, the DMOZ standard for story sites was 20 stories minimum. The Yahoo standard was about the same, unless it was a "personal" site, then it depended on the author.

I didn't say 20 BOOKS. 20 "wanking stories", about 500-100 words each. Quickies. Not the books that some people are putting out there.

DocHolly, you are in a totally different section there, illustrated stories. For the most part, I would put them in the category for the illistrations, not for the story.

Thanks Alex!!! that's what i've done in the past.. WHEN i have time to write for me instead of for others..

"illustrated" the story and when submitted was to the catagory of the pics/story if there was not a 'story' catagory.

Good discussion, hopefully it keeps rolling. I'm certainly glad I raised the issue.

So, RawAlex, you're talking about stories more like letters to penthouse forum...short and about a single brief scene. I generally tend to write longer scenes, but the stories I'll license are mostly in the range of 800-1000 words and they come in bundles of 25, so I should be able to make a dent.

What kind of sponsors or which sponsors have done well for you guys with story sites?

I've been really curious about this subject myself. I've wanted to try building a couple story sites but like said before with Literotica out there I wondered if there was sales potential at all. And also as asked what sponsor might be right.

Sites like literotica and ASSTR.ORG tend to take away greatly from the marketplace. It is very hard to sell stories when there are well known places that give 20,000 plus stories away.

I have done well in the past with Stories Traffic run by someone who has been in this business since just about day 1. Niche markets work :-)

The other choice is to use the stories to upsell people to video and other sites. It all depends on the approach.

Traffic is hard to find, tends to be loyal, and tends not to buy, so it's a challenge. I have a fair number of stories sites, and I rarely build new ones anymore.

Most of the submissions to our Stories category have about ten stories, but I'd be okay with as few as two if those were longish. I think that there's a potential for sales in the stories niche even though there's so much available for free. Even though I get few new submissions in that category, my stats tell me that it's the most popular category for people browing the list.
