I say submit to as many Link lists that you can, and spend some time making sure that they are all active - I started out submitting to a lot of sites that had not been updated in a year ^^ - don't waste your time like that

Also have to remember, sites big or small, can help you get your free sites in the SE's. And ya, as horny dude said, targeted traffic will sell better.
