text recips get clicked more often (at least most of'em) -> better for the linklist owner
text recips use less bandwidth -> better for the submitting webmaster I preffer text links |

I love it when a submitter uses a copy and paste of code from my recip page, but I'll take just about any recip that is used.

When my sites were open to the public I preferred text. As a matter of fact the more creative the link was the higher the listing ( provided the gallery or site met my guidelines)
