sickkittens,

In amongst all that is "the formula" to create a basic free site that breaks no rules and is therefore listable eveywhere.... the hard bit in my mind is then making the site 'individual' and 'saleable'.

Start with a basic template 3-4 pages, 2-3 banners per, 10 pics per gall... and then tweak from there... If you then stay within the rules .. only submitting is the painful bit.

Yes.

Actually I find submitting becomes the least frustrating part, once I've developed my rhythm. It doesn't take much time to skim the rules and see if there have been recent changes. (Many thanks to LL owners who post rule change notices in big, bright letters!)

As far as coming up with new layouts...that's the fun part for me. Usually. Sometimes I'm just tired and uninspired but even then I have plenty of templates to fall back on.

Coming up with decent marketing text is often frustrating for me, which really pisses me off because I have a background in marketing and consider myself to be a capable, if not always talented, writer.

Which brings me to what I think is the most frustrating part: Having to wear so many different hats at a time. Designer, coder, writer and trained monkey, often all in one day and often several times throughout the day.

Automation helps, and of course there's always the option of farming out some or all of the work...but despite the frustration, for the time being I'm enjoying the challenge.

I should add...right now I'm posting because I'm feeling frustrated deciding which site I want to promote tonight....

Mishi,

What percentage of your daily work does your free site time take up?

Sickkittens, that's a good question and hard to quantify (though I should be able to). I'm just recently diving back head first into the free site game after bouncing like a ping-pong ball among various other aspects of the adult biz. So in a way, right now it's taking up 100% of my time as I get back up to speed.

But that includes wandering off to visit and post to boards, meals and snacks, occasional TV breaks...

Hmm, I'm going to pay more attention to how much of my time is actually productive. That'll be scary....
