found this on GFY
I found this on GFY. It is pure speculation, but it mentioned a lot of points that I've been thinking for a long time:
1. Google might start valuing inbound links within paragraphs much higher than links that stand on their own. (For all we know, Google is already doing this.) Such links are much less likely to be the product of a link exchange, and therefore more likely to be genuine "democratic" votes. 2. Google might look at the concentration of inbound links across a website. If most inbound links point to the home page, that is another possible indicator of a link exchange, or at least that the site's content is not important enough to draw inbound links (and it is content that Google wants to deliver to its searchers). 3. Google might take a sample of inbound links to a domain, and check to see how many are reciprocated back to the linking domains. If a high percentage are reciprocated, Google might reduce the site's PageRank accordingly. Or it might set a cut- point, dropping from its index any website with too many of its inbound links reciprocated. 4. Google might start valuing outbound links more highly. Two pages with 100 inbound links are, in theory, valued equally, even if one has 20 outbound links and the other has none. But why should Google send its searchers down a dead-end street, when the information highway is paved just as smoothly on a major thoroughfare? 5. Google might weigh a website's outbound link concentration. A website with most outbound links concentrated on just a few pages is more likely to be a "link-exchanger" than a site with links spread out across its pages.

In my uneducated, non-SEO opinion......
#1 has always been the case #2 also been a long standing notion... deep linking far more value than index swapping #3 IMO pure speculation and unfounded in any reason #4 IMO Pure speculation #5 IMO Pure speculation and the greatest pieces of information are missing.. #1!! - CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT! Good content will get your site listed above someone with 10,000 inbound links.(I dont mean pictures) #2!! - RELEVANCY RELEVANCY RELEVANCY! linking nut and bolts to shirts fabrics aint gonna help ya. Wether or not these theories are well founded (and I can't say I've seen much real evidence that can be pointed to as "proof" of these theories). they sound reasonable enough to me.
Basically, it's just saying avoid un-natural patterns and build natural patterns. |

DD - lol - I can always count on you. I just thought it was apretty reasonable group of opinions. A lot better than I'd seen from a lot of the SEO (it's a bad word now - isn't it?) guys.
I bet there a pretty good amout of truth in it, specualtion or not, and yes - content IS king. I know of no proof that #1 "has always been the case", but I subscibe that notion.

I don't beleive one word that comes from the "Well of Lost Webmasters Souls"
.....But it does make me re-think my linking strategy. I just put 17 new domains on line and the plan is to 1 page wonder seo each one. Crosslink, then possibly add some toplists and fpas in the sub-dirs, for some internal linking. Thanks for the info, even if it is pure speculation. xxxjay, i emailed you bout some link trades but you never got back to me. Not sure if i just got lost in the shuffle or you just don't wanna trade cause im relatively new to the board. Both are understandable. Good permanent trades are hard to find but I can assure you, im not goin anywhere.

Jay - Id say between you me and DDave we can disprove #3 - look at all the links we have out there coming in to our index pages from recips - and remember at one time all of those recips were to the index page - and I dont think we have seen a declining page ranking - just the opposite if you ask me. True the links to inner pages will help on top of those index page links for moving the page rank through the site and getting more on-topic links.
The text surrounding links thing I also agree on - and do also agree that its been around for some time - just becoming something we started to realize had an effect recently ![]() Content!!! added every day can make for a fantastic ride |

I´m pretty new in this PR/GoogleTraffic-race...!
I run Bookmarklins.com and updates it every day with new mostly clean freesitelinks...I don´t get that many submissions yet. Both DD and Linkster says: "Content!!! added every day can make for a fantastic ride" What is content ... Is it the daily updated links to new sites or what ??? ![]() - BML ![]()

BML - when we talk about content for SE's remember that the leading SEs use automatic bots to spider pages - so content to them is text, links and pages. The ideal way to add content (in my opinion) is a new page with loads of text and links every day - just try to add something - links going out will change your existing pages a little bit
