"I'm 18" Checkbox to Enter?

Just got the chops affiliate newsletter. (As always, nice work guys.) I notice you've now got a java powerd form checkbox that needs to be selected so people can enter the site. I like the idea, but I wonder if I'm the only one.

Question: how would you other LL owners feel if someone submitted a site to you that used this?

I thought it might encourage the surfer to do yet more clicking, and make the free porn take even more work to get to... neither of which seem like bad things to me.

I wasn't really thinking of it as another layer of protection from liability.

I think they are mostly a click happy bunch since the majority stay on a page for less than 30 seconds. I don't see the benefit.

Virgohippy, thanks for asking. I wish you had gotten a better response.

IMO, a warning statement is about as useless as a tit on a bull. However, it is a line of defense and I belief that this beefs it up some as it records the IP, the time of entry, etc. Therefore, if a parent ever said that the free site threw porn at their kid, one could say I made your kid affirm his age, he lied, he continued and I have it recorded. And yes, the bi-product of encouaging adult surfers to click thru is a by-product.

It was a test and my next batch will not have it on the hfs'. I do believe the day will come soon that I will be dusting the dust off this, taking the java code out and using it or the more advanced script that is ready to go when age verification is forced on our business model.

If I am wrong, blame it on the Republicans.

I see where Chop’s coming from. My concern would be folks 19 and older from Alabama wouldn’t think they would be allowed access

I think its wishful thinking that all they will require is a checkbox to verify age I think the purpose of any new laws of this type will be to keep kids out of free porn sites, not slow them down a few seconds. The problem I see is that the lawmakers arent making the parents accountable for their own children. It should be half on our shoulders and half on the parents. We add some standardized code to our sites and then the parents install some software that blocks sites with that code. I dont think theres an adult webmaster around that wouldnt be happy as hell to keep kids out of their sites and the same goes for parents. But the lawmakers have their heads too far up their asses to make it happen.

If such a thing ever does happen it will be interresting to see what it does to traffic and sales.
