What do you use to keep track of the content on your computer?

Is there a good management program? Maybe see thumbnails, keep notes on when last used, easy to find pics on a catalog syle search etc.

Also anything good to keep track of contacts, and affiliate programs, like what pay, niche sites, user and password etc.

I'm probably re-inventing the wheel with what I use, but I prefer 'homemade' tracking solutions.

I use Excel for all that, but any spredsheet will do. Excel has the benefit of exporting to my PDA, though, so I always have the info to hand (and an extra back up).

As oast said, Excel is the best way to keep things organized from what I've found.

I thought that Exel would be good, but I am just no good with spread sheets. Oh well maybe I will give it a go and see what comes out.

The beauty of an excel spreadsheet is that at any moment I can expand on the data I collect, and recompile it to suit my needs.

Sometimes I make 2 or even three entries for every recorded transaction. Because I do it by hand, I make sure it's quick and easy for me to record the data in a format I understand. As a result, I spend more time making decisions and acting on them, and spend less time analyzing stats in fancy charts and graphs that really don't tell me much.

Start with something basic, it doesn't have to be fancy, just functional.
You can always make another and import as needed.

Like everyone said. Not only can you design the look and info you want you can make changes cut and paste, whatever. I keep a SS for all my sponsors which I list code, user name and passwords. I have another spreadsheet for sponsor, program, link code, domain I'm using it on. I link all that to my folders which contains my banners, content, etc. Makes it really easy when you're working with 50 or more sponsors.

Any spreadsheet does the job. You're basically filling in cells, it's like a form, no math involved.

That sounds complicated but ones you know how, I am sure it would make life a lot easier.

If you're on a PC/Windows a folder window should display a file path similar to a web url. In fact, it's even called "address." Copy/paste the address of the folder you want into a cell in your spreadsheet and it should turn into a clickable link.

Ok, I think i got that, it makes more sense now. Thanks virgohippy.

Now, if someone could post an example of a spread sheet so at least I have a start, that would be extremely helpfull, like I said before I am not very good with spreadsheets.

Maybe have the links and codes xxx out and post it as an example?
