Link List PR trades
I composed a tightly constructed, well-researched, judiciously thought out thread about Gooogle PR, and then lost it in the ether |pissed|
Anyway - the essence of my ramblings was thusly: Are PR trades truly useful for Link Lists? For my own part I'm not sure, since the very essence of a link list revolves around link trades. But I would immediately stress that I am in no way dissatisfied with the PR trades which I have established (they're all good people ![]() The essence of what I'm getting at is this: If PR trades are so beneficial, how come these LL don't go in for them? link-o-rama richards-realm tommys-bookmarks drbizzaro dangerdave jurbi (DD again) |

But when you have large traffic, like the list above, it's hard to find other sites that you can trade fairly with.

I understand what you're saying Urb, and on a LL reciprocal basis it's a point well made, but I'm still not clear on the benefits of index-page PR trades.
For example, I've traded index page links with, amongst others, our mutual friend Opti, over at **************.com, which site is, in many google-ways, "superior" to hadafew.com (and rightly so), but what benefits are to be accrued at either end? With deference to Jim, I'm asking the question now because I think its "timely". |

We Love Free Porn and Had A Few are similar sites in theme and both index pages include the "free porn" phrase, so Google will surely make the connection.
One specific benefit will be that, in Google's dbase, the phrase "free porn" will be more associated with both sites as a result. If for example a PR5 page about "phone sex" placed an unrelated link to "speed boats", Google would not place as much trust in that link as it would have done from a PR5 about "boats".

i WOULD LOOK FOR A DEPRECIATED BENIFIT TO THESE KINDS OF TRADES IN THE NEAR FUTURE.

Ahhh ... sweet pity. Where would my love life be without it?

I hope the blog links decrease in benefit before the link list PR trades.
There's a bunch of blogger leechers spamming up a storm.

Yeah - google will drop the axe on the blogs fairly quickly is my guess. At least cat trades are relevant.

I would tend to disagree about the blogs getting axed - Yes the spam logs where anyone can sign like a guestbook will probably be hunted down, but since Google has bought Pyra and runs the blogger.com show as well as putting a blogger add button in its new version of the toolbar, I kinda doubt they would cut off their own nose.
The original question about the index page trades - Im one of the ones that has always done it, and it seems to count for something in others backlinks - that said, the index page would have to include some content to be worthwhile - otherwise it just comes out as a linkfarm - Ive been experimenting with the limits and so far it seems that having alot of outgoing links to other authority (same genre) sites helps. It also allows for more of your own sites to be listed on the index page to transfer PR(or at least get them spidered) without the crosslinking penalty problem. Balancing the number of links is something that seems to be beneficial, but by the same token, remember that that leaves less PR to transfer internally, so its best to have internal category link trades already in place to boost the cat pages. One other "different" effect I've seen recently, is that the number of links coming into the index page and their respective PR, is not as important as the "authority" of the site the link is coming from. Somehow Google has assigned some ranking number that isn't PR to grade the links. Im hoping I can figure out what their grading process is, as so far the only thing I have seen as widespread is that TGP sites are getting a big boost right now? |

Took the hint.

I think they will encourage their own blogs and pretty much ax the rest, and probably won't weight their own very heavily. Google I think understands the negative effects of blogs on "natural links" and things that have come up on webmasterworld by googleguy seem to point to blogs getting tossed, especially on "blog sites", those domains / hosts that do nothing but blogs.
I think that independant blogs, operated by outside of blog networks will still be viewed and considered, but they probably won't have as much PR as a result. Google is being nice with link sites and TGPs right now too... interesting compared with Altavista's opinion, it seems. Alex |
